okay i give up...i need help!
right this second i sit in a room that should be my office but is totally crowded with furniture leaning on its side because we're in the process of putting down fresh and new carpeting for this whole downstairs area...fine i can deal for one more week.
however once carpet is done and furniture is in its place the first room to finish is my office and im really excited cause this is totally my space so i want to design it to fit me....
here is my design dilemma...
my office is just a spare bedroom about 10x12. its freshly painted. closet has been outfitted with closet maid shelving system, recycled white desk thanks to my bff to hold my bday gift and very simple office equipment area..soooooo that means one side of the room is done.
the other longest wall is a little under 8 feet. that wall i want to do something like this

bottom shelving to store kids board games and dvd collection and the top to put our books. i dont have nearly as many as featured in that picture but i do plan to get there. the kids have really good collection and right now they're all over the house so i would like them to all live in one place we tend to forget whose room is storing what books so this would just make things simpler.
prob one - i want the bottom to look semi custom without the custom price tag
prob two - has anyone installed shelves like that and whats the weight capacity? i mean we have those closetmaid shelves in every closet and they hold up really well considering but i kind of feel books are heavier??? i know those are to be secured into studs but would they really hold a large collection on books where many may be hard cover?
prob 3 - i want it in white :)
so if you're up for the challenge help me design this space....and after this we have the family room that has a brick wall/fireplace and other spare bedroom! grrrr

I have an idea.
places like home depot and lowes have indivitual kitchen cabinets, they sell them by item.. come with doors and everything and in white.. maybe you can buy the bottom cabinets and put nice knobs on them... then for the top.. why dont you buy white bookcases.. instead of putting up shelves that will not hold the weight and will make holes on your wall.. put the bookcases on top of the cabinets and secure them to the wall with little metal brackets.. I'll see if I can find a picture.. hope this helps.

ok this is what I meant.. more or les.. you can put the cabinets on the bottom.. you will have to make a top for he kitchen cabinets (you know they come ready for you to put granite or whatever material you are going to put on the top).. instead you can put some nice wood.. then on top you can get bookcases..with or without doors.. thats up to you and your budget. :)
omg thanks yvonne! i love your suggesstions. now i got some homework to do. never thought about the kitchen cabinet idea.

you are very welcome.. my dream was to become a designer.. lol.. guess thats why I am crazy over decorating.. oh and one more thing.. if you want to make the bookcases look more custom made.. get molding (the one used for the ceilings) and put it on the top, against the ceilings and the bookcase.. you'll need a nail gun for this.. but its fun and gives it a polished look :)
