Hello ladies. I just joined and wanted to introduce myself. I am Michelle and my husband of almost 5 years is Chris. We have a 15 month old son named Nicholas. We have orders to Camp Lejeune and will arrive in July. Yes I know this is a long ways out, but we are coming from Japan so it takes a little more planning and patience to do such a move (moving here was also quite the process). While being still in Japan I will also be searching for housing as we want to live offbase. This will be the first time we have lived off base, but since DH will have just over a year on his contract that is what is best for our family. Camp Lejeune will be our 3rd duty station. Our first duty station was Beaufort, SC, then here to Iwakuni Japan. I also hope to find a job when we arrive as I am not the type of mom that stays home (I worked until I gave birth to my son and went back to work when he was 8 weeks old, worked until he was 9 months old and have been home with him since..and going crazy, lol).
well good luck on the move for the first thing, I've heard from other wives that when you come home from Japan, you tend to miss how nice they are to you there, and I've heard that people back in the states are very rude when you compare. I've never been in the situation, so I don't know first hand but that's something to possibly prepare for. Do you plan on renting or buying since you're not wanting to be onbase. I'd suggest talking to a realtor, that's what we did and we found a 4 bedroom house in a really nice subdivision, and I have a fenced in back yard and SPACE! Which I'm loving. If you need to find any phone numbers, please let me know, I'll try my best to find them for ya.

Hi, I'm Susan and I'm new too. DH and I are PCSing to Lejeune in March from recruiting duty and we got married right before he left for recruiting school so the long hours is all I know. I'm a SAHM to a 14 month old. We're going to be looking for either base housing or off base, but all I am finding is houses for 1300 a month and I don't want to spend that much.
Hello, im Tomiko and I moved here in July and we live on base...Im a SAHM to a 12 and 6 yr old and currently pregnant with #3....when we moved here we were looking to rent in town but decided to live on base..if you need any help let me know!

Quoting jazzyjae:thats what they told us too but we got in after 3 months of waiting
Quoting abelsc:
We are hoping to get base housing but from what I see the wait is almost a year even for SNCO's so I guess we'll see once we get there.
What did you do while you waited to move into on base housing? Did you just stay in a hotel? We stayed in Temp Lodging for 6 weeks before we got our place here in Japan and it SUCKED, which is why we are going to be seeking offbase housing.
Thanks for the welcome ladies. I know it is going to be a hard transition, but I can not wait to get back to the US where I have more options with well..everything. Shopping at the commissary all the time sucks and shopping on the economy can get expensive. We have gone stateside twice in less than 6 months. One was for a normal visit to see everyone (no one came here to see us the whole time we were here) and the other is because my grandfather was very ill and was not going to make it to the end of the year...definately a big hit not only emotionally but financially.
I was stationed in Lejeune years ago. When we got married, we lived off base. Just as I was leaving,t hey were buildng brand new town homes. It was a pit when I lived there, but after we left they built some new things. You can move out in town with a short term lease or month to month.
