just found this - I retired from MCAS New River in May 1999. Prior to me retiring, it was either the base paper or the Jacksonville paper that had a very samll article about lead being in the blinds on MCAS New River.
I have been trying to find article. My daughter was a heavy blind chewer. We were told that they were replacing all the blinds as they remodeled the houses in base housing. It would appear that they replaced the blinds with more blinds containing lead.
if anyone can find that article please let me know. Thanks
the houses on the enlisted side have all been remodeled as of the end of 09 beginning of 2010, we moved into our house November of 2009 and watched all the houses around us get remodled, we haven't had any problems. all the old officer ones have been torn down and new ones have been build up by the front gate. in houses as old as thees are (built in about the 60's-70's) there is always issues with lead, mold, asbestos(sp?) but i saw the hazmat teams come in to scrape all that stuff out before they remodeled.
