The Birth Center?

DH and I just found out that we're expecting baby #2!  DS (now 2 years old) was born at a hospital in Florida (where we lived at the time).  For various reasons, I was unhappy with the hospital birth experience and am considering using The Birth Center in Bryn Mawr for this pregnancy.  Has anyone had any experience with them that they'd like to share?  I'm going to an info session there tomorow night, but it would be nice to get some input from anyone who has used their services!

I haven't been there personally but have heard from a couple people that they loved it.  I plan to go there when we get pregnant with #3.

Congrats on you coming LO!!!

My SD was born at the Bryn Mawr hospital, and her father and mother both rave about the people there.  I have a couple friends who have delivered at the Birth Center.  The only thing that any of them have mentioned, is that if you are not 110% sure that you are going to have an unmedicated birth, then don't go there.  They cannot give pain meds there from what I have been told, and they don't like to move the mothers to the hospital unless it is an emergency.

I had thought that as well about the pain meds and I was really on the fence because I did end up having an epidural when DS was born 2 years ago (I was induced and Pitocin contractions are really rough).  Anyway, I asked about pain meds at the info session I went to at The Birth Center and they said that they can't give an epidural because that requires continous fetal monitoring and they're not set up for that, but there are other pain meds that they can give if you decide that's what you want.  So, I decided to go ahead and go with them this time!

Good luck on your delivery, and CONGRATS!!!  on the coming baby.

My daughter I delivered with demoral(sp) shots (I have serious issues with needles, so a huge needle in my back just was NOT going to happen), and my son with no medication at all.  I can tell you that it is one of the most empowering things I have ever done.
