MIL's birthday

So my MILs birthday is on Thursday, thanksgiving day. DH told me his sister's (my SIL) In laws invited DH parents and us over for thanksgiving dinner. My FIL asked DH if we will be going because he also wanted to take MIL a cake. SILs In-laws live almost an hour away from us. I told DH I don't want to go because I don't want to spend that day with those people and also because I don't want to come home very late, specially it being so far. DH got mad and said he's going even if I don't want to go for the "Sake" of his mother and that we should split the kids. So I'm not sure if I should go or not because I don't want my In laws to assume that I don't care to spend time with them or care that it's my MILs birthday. I would love to spend it with MY mother, sibling, and relatives who I rarely see and live 2 minutes away. What should I do?
