My last pregnancy with my son was pretty difficult. I was diagnosed as "high risk"  three months into my pregnancy with him. I was high risk due to high blood pressure, tachycardia (which is an abnormally fast heart rhythm), asthma, and arrythmia (which caused my heart to actually got out of rhythm)....when I was 5 months pregnant with my son he was diagnosed with IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction)....they believed his growth restriction may have been caused by my complications, mainly my high blood pressure (needless to say I spent alot of time on bedrest).......anywho, my son was delivered via c-section at 36weeks.......he only weighed 4lbs and he spent 5 days in ICU....two days after I had him my heart went out of rhythm and I had to spend some time in ICU as well......

The doctors have assured me that EACH pregnancy is different and that this pregnancy may be much smoother and alot easier. However, they want me to see a high risk doctor from the very beginning until the end of my pregnancy!....I am  currently 4 weeks pregnant and will begin seeing the high risk doctor in two weeks!!!.......I'll be having another c-section so my due date is January 21st but Im quite sure the baby will be delivered the week before my due date.....my son is doing great and he is happy, very active 20 month old baby....(still a little small, but nevertheless he is perfect).....anywho, just wondering if anyone else is high risk!

P.S. My son does have a condition called Langerhan's Cell Histiocytosis....it's where his immune system produces too many white blood cells and as a result they end up turning on eachother. It's a rare condition and it's treated as a cancer EVENTHOUGH it is NOT cancer...they found that chemotherapy is effective in curing this condition and killing off the excessive white blood cells...so my son is currently undergoing chemotherapy....he will be cured of this condition once chemo is complete!! so Thank God it can be cured:)......The condition is so rare so they are not completley sure what causes it.......but I'm just curious to see as research develops will they learn its linked to growth restriction.....

Your little guy is so cute! I have been seeing a fertility specialist and have been having frequent ultrasounds because of the medications I'm taking and my history of TTC for so long. After my first trimester the visits will slow down and hopefully I won't have to be considered high risk. Good luck to you with this pregnancy!

I'm do 1/25/09 and also high risk mostly because my last 2 preg ended in miscarriages. I have to have a ultrasound every week starting the 27th. Until I reach 12wks then my fertility dr will release me to my OB.

I dont know that im high risk totally but my doctor is keeping a good eye on me because I hae had 5 first term miscarriages.  Once I can get out of the 1st trimester I should be okay.  Does that count.....

I'm not sure why, but with my son they kept putting me as high risk on their charts and stuff, but would never really tell me why... so I dunno! Everything went good with my son though, there was no complications at all. I did have to see a genetics counselor b/c there was a chance my son could have hemophilia (bleeding disorder)... would that make someone high risk? This time I'm pretty sure we don't have to worry about the bleeding disorder... one b/c only boys can get it (for the most part) and we're hoping for a girl :P, but two I don't think I'm a carrier of hemophilia. Also I'm due on January 21st as well!

They are putting me a high risk.  I miscarried in Jan.  Also, my second son was born with one good working kidney and one called a poly-cystic kidney.  The left kidney formed underneath the right kidney.  Instead of forming a kidney it formed little cysts.  But the good thing is the cysts are decreasing in growth and will just go away.  They are watching me closely.

I am a high risk pregnancy they said. I miscarried my first child at 13 weeks after taking 12 months to get pregnant. Then it took me 9 months to get pregnant again and my son is disabled with bilateral clubfoot. Although it can be fixed it can be genetic. Now I am almost 7 weeks pregnant and having cramps on one side. Also my hormones are to high they said but they can't see more than one baby. So they are unsure why my body is doing this.

im high risk this time around because with michaela without warning 3 days before a scheduled inducement her heart stopped and she was stillborn.  they have no reason for this not even with the autopsy and in january i had an early miscarraige.  my doctor has already told me the last six weeks i will have a sonogram every week and he will order a heart monitor for me to take home.  im also on metformin to help prevent another miscarraige.  so hopefully i make all the way this time with a crying baby to greet me.  at least ive already heard the heartbeat at the drs office.

sincerely,

I was high risk with my first, I had PIH that developed into Preeclampsia and had to be induced. Now with this one she is having be do 24 hour urine tests every now and then, constant blood pressure check, and a few extra ultrasounds.  They think I'll probably get it again because both my grandmothers had it, a few of my aunts and my cousin.  they believe it is a hereditary thing so they are going to keep a look out.  Hope yours goes good this time.
