just wanted to see if anyone was interested in breastfeeding once their baby arrived.  i'm not a breastfeeding nazi as i had about every single problem breastfeeding my daughter.  i am doing my dissertation on breastfeeding views and wanted to see if any first time moms are interested in reading my journal about my online questionnaire.  thanks!

I'm thinking about trying to breast feed but my mom and grandma weren't able to because of low iron in their milk so the baby wanted to eat every 20 mins because they weren't getting enough vitamins. One doctor I talked to said its a genetic thing and there is a good chance I wont be able to either. But my current doctor say as long as I take the vitamins I'm taking now I should have no problem so I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens.

I am planning on breastfeeding but there's a chance that I wont have any milk since my mom nor her mom had any. I'm hoping that I am the exception b/c I really don't want to have to bottle feed w/ formula.

Not all doctors are educated about lactation...  In the beginning, babies do tend to nurse very often...  It's a process to be endured to get a mother's milk supply to build...  My mother breastfed me and my siblings and supplemented with formula.  I had a goal to breastfeed only, and she was convinced that DD wasn't getting enough because she wanted to nurse so often...  DD is now almost 8 months, hasn't had formula since she was about 7 weeks, and that was with me feeding her mostly from one breast because she favors the left side...

how do they know that they didn't have any milk?  please seek the advice of a lactation consultant prior to birth as well as after.  all it takes is determination.  dd had latching issues in the beginning..  it took her a couple of days to latch at all, and when she finally did, she would only latch to one side...  i was determined to get her to nurse on both sides, and now she does...  also, keep in mind that if you pump, a pump does not work as well as a baby does when it comes to drawing out milk...  so, if you only pump an ounce or two, it DOES NOT mean that you have a low supply....  please check out the breastfeeding group that we have here at CM.

I know that breastfeeding does not work out for everyone, but I plan to try to breastfeed if my body allows it.
