My name is Rebecca.  All together my husband and I have 5 kids.  They all live with us.  It is a mine, his, and ours thing.  I have 3 kids from my previous marriage.  He has a son.  My DH and I have a baby daughter together.

My 19 year old son is bipolar...........or at least I think he is.  I'm trying to set up an appointment for him to see the doctor.  At one time he was diagnosed as being bipolar and then a couple years later that same doctor said that he wasn't.  We chose not to have him medicated at that time due to the possible side effects for a teenager being worse than what he was experiencing at that time.  Now though the mood swings are just too much and so if I can get him to agree to go to the doctor we will put him on medication.

I have an 8 year old daughter who was just recently diagnosed as PDD-NOS.  I've got two different doctor's reports and one appears to read that she is not autistic but has autistic type qualities about her and the other doctor's report reads that she is mildly autistic but high functioning.  Anyway she was just diagnosed this past year.  I knew she was developmentally delayed in some areas but her hand flapping was becoming very apparent and the school recommended we see a doctor about it.  So.............there you go.

Hi my name is AngieMcK. I am a SAHM of two sons. John is 6 and has Autism, Isaac is 3 and is not Autistic but is speech delayed. John is about to finish kindergarten and will be in 1st grade in the fall. He attends a public school special education class specifically for Autistic kids and gets speecha nd OT in school. Isaac receives speech therapy through the  school and will be in preschool this fall.  Both boys are enrolled in swimming classes at our local YMCA. Both seem to enjoy it. John is doing very well with swimming. Drowning is the number 1 cause of death in Autistic kids. While John is learning to swim and float, he has no fear and would just walk right into the pool or other body of water if we would let him. We are  trying to teach him not to be afraid of the water, but learn fear or respect of the water and not to go in unless someone is there with him.

Hi, my name is Kristina.  DH and I live in AR with our three kids.  My oldest son, now 8, was diagnosed with PDD-NOS a little over four years ago. I'm looking forward to talking with you guys to get some ideas and suggestions on recreation for our kids.  N is mostly focused on video games when I let him, but he also loves to cook (wants to be a chef) and to go fishing...

Hello everyone!
I am new to the group, but not to Cafe Mom.  I am a SAHM in Sacramento, CA.  I have 2 beautiful little girls-Emma, who just turned 4 and has Autism, and Ashlyn, who is 15 months and is developing normally so far!!  Emma is in an autism preschool class in the mornings and loves it.  She also has in-home ABA therapy, speech and OT in the afternoons, so she is a very busy little girl!  Looking forward to chatting with all of you in the group!

Hi!  My name is Becky and I have a son who is 5 1/2.  He has a rare genetic disorder called WAGR syndrome.  He is legally blind, has some brain and heart abnormalities, a seizure disorder, tons of health issues...  he is nonverbal but communicates really well with sign language.  He is also a cancer survivor.   He loves music and can hum his favorite songs (Old MacDonald is a fave at the moment), he is so happy all the time, and he is such a blessing!  He has taught me so much about life and love.  I stayed home with him until he was almost 4 and began a full-day special ed preschool program.  Now I work as an ABA therapist in a nearby school.

Hi there,
Krista, Mama to 3.  My oldest is 8 and she has recently been labeled as "gifted".  I've never had her evaulated for Aspergers,  thought I suspect that if I did, she might be given that label.  I believe that she has mild/high functioning Aspergers, but it's so mild that my husband and I have decided not to get her labeled as such.

My middle daughter is 5 (turns 6 in about 2 weeks).  She has mild cerebral palsy as well as a cross-over form of Vascular & Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.  She has gross/fine motor disabilities, chronic health problems as well as some sensory issues.  Her neurologist and I think that she probably has ADD, but we've both decided not to have her labeled as such until she was either 8, or it is grossly effecting her schooling.  Anika's been ina nd out of the hospital all her life, and is labeled "OHI" (Other Health Impairments) in her IEP at school.  Anika wears theratogs from her shoulders down to her ankles, as well as SMAFO's on her ankles/feet.  She uses a wheelchair when we are anywhere that she cannot readily sit or lay down when she needs to, otherwise, these braces help her to ambulate independantly.

My son is 4, and is developing 'normally'. :)

I am a stay at home mama, while husband works as a Special Ed. teacher.  He has just finished his first year working soley with kids who have ASD, and will teach another year with the same class next year (middle school).

That's me!

Krista

It's not what I perceive of myself, but what they see in me.
