Just wondering if anyone has their kids on/in any types of sports. If so -did he/she just take to it naturally? Did someone work 1:1 w/ him/her to get to that point?

My daughter was in the Upward Basketball.  It was sponsored through a local church.  All kids get to play equal time and in every game.  They take special needs children as well........or at least this church did.

I tried my daughter in soccer...her choice....hated it...won't go back...still says its her favourite sport.....she spent her whole time chasing seagulls instead of soccer ball...was funny though

I tried my son in gymnastics...wasn't ready to be part of a group, but still did okay and loved it immensely....!!!!  I'm going to try him in it again, maybe this fall.....

My son hates all sports. He won't even ride a bike.
I force him to take swimming lessons, and he actually loved it at first...until he failed a level and had to repeat it, which is because he can't stand water in his eyes. So now he's also saying he hates swimming too.
I wish I could get him more interested in sports.

I have enrolled Nicole in a ballerina class, called Dancing Dreams, for girls with disabilities & she is also a player on the NY Rockies, in the Challenger baseball games, in Massapequa NY.  She loves the ballet; is tolerant of baseball & I want to try her on the challenger soccer (indoors) that I've heard about.  I was told that the kids are not able to kick the ball hard enough to damage her trach, so it might be something worth looking into.

Great question!

I was thinking about getting Alix into t-ball, but I got the registration dates mixed up (it ended the day I thought it started) sooo that didn't happen.

last year we tried soccer for my son. It didnt go so well, he tried so hard but he just can not run well enough to keep up with the other teams. This year we did tball and he loves it, he is not too great att it, actually I am thinking it is funny to watch him play any sports. But we do it anyways. He does not run very well and is not able to do everythink like the other players but he has a blast and thats what matters most

my son was in soccer as well, but when he couldn't get the ball, make a goal or in no one kicked him the ball he would have meltdown. then we tried indoor soccer and that didn't work either because of the buzzer. my son has senserie  issues.

Hello
my 10 yr old daughter has done soccer. Which she loved. She has done tap, ballet. Both of them was enjoyed. She does gymnastics and competitive cheerleader. She has ADHD both has helped her a lot.

My 4 yr old son wants to follow his sister and do competitive cheerleader. This year would had been his first chance but with speech apraxia he is very flighty so they asked that he waits till he is 5.

my 2 yr old daughter wants to be just like her big sister. But instead of being a base for a pyramid. She wants to be on the top. She has tried already once. She LOVED IT. My oldest daughter's team mates held her up in formation designed her her. SHE WAS WAVING AND BLOWING KISSES. She has speech aphasia.

The cheerleading gym we are at in Tallmadge ohio has a special needs group. The boys and girls on this team does many of the similiar stunts. So I would suggest checking at local competitive cheerleading gyms. You may find something that can help the kids.

Have not tried to get Brandon in any sports yet. Mainly because he can run 2 miles in 10 minutes, and he has sensory isues with  too many people around.  I would love to though.

If any one has been sucessful with this with an ASD child with similar issues I would love to know how you did it.
