Tarot Books that I found to be Interesting and Helpful
a few from my collection:
- Tarot Companion by Tracy Porter - i have exhausted a few copies of this book. it goes into more than just the interpretations of the cards in the Waite-based decks. it discusses basic symbology, numerology, Qabalah, astrology, timing, people, et. al. it gives a few sample spreads as well. i find that it's handy to keep about especially as it doesn't give hard and fast "this card means this and nothing else" verbage. one of the few books that gives multiple tools for finding meanings for oneself and a path by which to do so...
- The Tarot Workbook by Kathleen McCormack - the book is meant to sharpen one's skill as a reader by exploring the changes to a card's meaning when combined with those of nearby cards. i'll admit i still have a hard time with this book as it does give hard and fast definitions, but it's worth looking at if one has the time and patience to go through the workbook.
- The Tarot Directory by Annie Lionnet - this was a random impulse purchase. the more i look at it, the more it's grown on me as a wonderful beginner book. it doesn't get deep into the different meanings of the cards themselves. it does however feature card art from multiple decks, handy for those still trying to find the one that calls to them on an aesthetic level. it also includes brief sections on the act of reading as well as case studies (brief analyses of readings including the spread used, context of the reading, and how the actual cards apply to the situation in question).
