Teacher Pumping at work

I just had an extreamly uncomfortable conversation with my principal. This is his first year as a principal, and he's not too much older than I am. He's married, but no kids, so he was in unfamilar territory, I believe. My planning period is 4.5 hours into the school day, and H nurses/takes a bottle every three hours. After I mentioned that I was to be granted time as often as I needed by law, and shared Fact Sheet 73 with him, he said he would have to talk with the school board because he didn't see how he could make it work. He was very open to hearing me and nice about it (we were both a bit embarrassed, I think). I'm asking for two pump breaks, one earlier in the school day and one later. At my school, teachers have on 55 minute planning period.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Any teachers who have navigated this before?

I pumped last school year.

I woke at 4:30 to pump before my shower. Pumped at planning, lunch, and immediately after school.

I had to pump in my classroom, though never with students there. I kept myself covered with my nursing cover.

NO one denied her anything, BUT she can't expect others to do HER job.

I think these were all simply suggestions.  They lead to a her problem being solved.  Similar things have been done Where I work and no one is offended by them. I wonder why you seem so adamant to attempt to prove her "wrong".

I'm not out to prove anyone wrong. The OP handled the situation correctly. The little twit at my site didn't and now will receive no support from her colleagues. It's all in the presentation.

We have been talking about OPs situation though right?

I will add that we only had one 30 minute planning period during the school day. But we also have duty-free lunch.

At different points I thought you were referring to the girl at my site. Lol I think we are in agreement about the situation.

Is there an unused office space? I work in a dairy plant down in the production area. But they were able to give me an office with blinds and a mini fridge. Hopefully u can get somethig like that.

I'm gonna have to have this convo soon. Not as a teacher, but I need to ask where to pump in the warehouse.

So glad it's working out. Pumping at work is much more difficult than people think.

Thank you, you are absoutley right. I did offer a solution that involved having someone watch my class while they did silent reading (which is a part of our curriculum. He found me this afternoon, showed me a small room to use and said that he would be sending an aide in at 11. I am very pleased with him!
