How much technology are your kids exposed to and how young?
DH and I are both engineers, which means we live in a very technology friendly household. The amount of computer we have still exceeds the amount of people living in the home (1 desktop and 1 laptop for both DH and I vs. 3 family members). Our desktops also have dual monitors, and since DH trades the stock market, most of his day is spent on the computer. With that said, DS was exposed very young to our level of technology. By the time he was 1.5 years old, he could navigate our phones and we had games on them for him. At 2.5 he can pretty much pick up any phone or tablet and navigate it without much instruction. He has started playing Purple Place on my desktop and has very good control of the mouse and keyboard action. However, on the flip side, we severely limit TV time. He gets maybe an hour a day with the TV on at all, of which he watches maybe 15 minutes.
And of course, he traded his first stock at 3 months old...and made money doing it (obviously we know he had no idea what he was doing other than hitting keys that DH told him to).
Steph is pretty tech-savvy. She can work our iphones, ipads, and HER ipod (used to be daddy's) pretty well. She doesn't work our computers, but that is because they aren't in use around her, with all the hand-held stuff we have. (kindle/kindle fire, 2 iphones, 2 ipads, 1 ipod touch) We each have a laptop, though and there is a third floating around the house. There are 2 desktops. One runs our security system, the other is in the "mancave" part of the garage.
When we went to my mom's, though, Steph had a rude awakening to the world of low-tech. They don't have Wi-Fi, so no Elmo on YouTube! They only have a desktop, so very slow, since it's dial-up. And they live in a poor cell reception area.
I LOVE YouTube! We cancelled cable so thats where we get our mickey mouse clubhouse from. That and while they had it up, he became a fan of Duck Tales! Those were taken down though :( We now have Netflix and his favorite is Jimmy Neutron.

They do pretty well but we are not that much into technology stuff. I have a nook and my husband is on his laptop a lot. My oldest has a DS but is hardly on it. They will go on the computer and play games and knows how to navigate themselves a little but, really, as a family we don't spend that much time on these. Now, ask us how many softball gloves we have in our house. hahaha
My kids love technology. My 4 year old plays games on the various websites that offer educational preschool games, like abcmouse.com. He's pretty proficient with the mouse and even the touchpad on our macbook. And I have far more apps for him on my phone than for myself!
we have also been ds computer homework since he was 3. Typing things, drawing pictures, etc. I think it's very important for kids to go on computers because technology is the future.
also, we monitor everything ds does online.
My girls are very tech savvy, ofcourse when they were little there wasn't as much as now. My oldest didn't have her own computer till she was living on her own. We only had one desktop for years, till three years ago, when got my first laptop when I started college. my middle daughter is very computer savvy, she is my computer geek when her older sister isn't available..lol
We now have three laptops, and one desktop...my younger girls and I each have a laptop and my husband has the desktop. We each have cell phones nothing fancy, we like technology but don't feel we have to go over board.

I definitely recommend Purple Place if you have Vista (maybe even 7). We just let DS play the matching game. Since its just a memory card game, its super slow so he can point and click at his pace. And when he matches, he gets SO excited to watch the cards fly off the screen. LOL

DS watches a few shows a day (mostly Mickey mouse). He love playing in my phone but I don't let him too often, mostly bc I don't want him screwing something up. We recently introduced him to the computer but he needs a lot of help with it still
DS is in 1st grade so he is pretty good on the laptop and the occasional kindle/ipad use
Dd is in pre-k, she isn't too interested in anything other than the dvd player and angry birds on the ipad.
