A new post for each "celebration" today.
Liberace Day
This a wacky holiday to celebrate the life of Liberace. While he had a life style that would be flamboyant on both and off the stage. He also had a career that lasted over 4 decades. He was a hard worker, did what he loved and it showed in every time he would get on stage. He not only loved music but when he was a child he tried cooking and gardening. Which he was very good at also
Create a Vacuum Day
1. Try a vacuum packed lunch: You can experience life as an astronaut simply by sealing your lunch in little vacuum bags. Because bread tastes pretty nasty with no air in it, astronauts often pack sandwiches made with tortillas, so maybe you should try cheese and pickle fajitas. Yummy.
2. Open your freezer: All you have to do for this one is open your freezer door - twice. You'll notice that the second time you open it - after waiting a few seconds - it seems to be stuck much tighter. This is because when you opened it the first time, the cold air that came out of the bottom of the cabinet was replaced by warm air flowing from the outside into the top of the cabinet. The warmer air quickly cools, and as it does this, contracts to create a partial vacuum inside the freezer. Because the door seal on your freezer isn't completely airtight, however, air leaks in, allowing you to open the door again. Cool eh?
3. Fling yourself out of a spaceship: Noone knows quite what the effect of vacuum is on a human body, so you'll be doing science a service. Obviously, for the experiment to tell us anything, you'll have to do it suit-less and therefore probably won't make it back alive. Theory suggests it would take more than a minute for you to incur any permanent damage and, of course, after this you're going to start losing consciousness due to lack of oxygen. Anecdotal evidence from extremely high altitude parachutist, Joe Kittinger, who ascended to 31km, showed that exposing a hand to a vacuum could leave it painful and useless. By the time Kittinger had returned to Earth however, his hand was back to normal.
4. Take some shaving cream... Okay for this one you might need a scientist friend with a little specialist equipment. Alternatively, you can just watch someone else doing it (see below). What's happening here is pretty simple. Shaving foam in its normal state contains lots of little pockets of air. When the pressure in the space outside the foam is reduced by removing the air from it, the pressure in these air pockets is higher in comparison, so they expand, causing the foam to turn into the huge white monstrosity you see in the film.
Homemade soup day. (wish I knew this before I did my plan for dinner tonight)
Stuffed Mushroom day
It’s National Stuffed Mushroom Day! The stuffed mushroom has been around since the early 20th century, and was most likely based on a traditional Italian recipe for stuffed zucchini blooms.
Mushrooms are often filled with breadcrumbs, garlic, parsley, olive oil, and Parmesan cheese. In the 1940s and 1950s, restaurants began presenting stuffed mushrooms as a delicacy and used expensive ingredients such as hot sausage or crabmeat.
Make your favorite type of stuffed mushrooms today in honor of National Stuffed Mushroom Day!

I wish this day didn't have to exist. I just watched SOs best friend bury his dad to Brest cancer two weeks ago and now my great aunt is suffering from breast, bone, & brain cancer. It's a crappy disease

I agree with you guys! My fil finished his 7 weeks of radiation for prostate cancer before Christmas and as far as I know he hasn't been back for a follow up check yet. I lost my maternal grandfather and my stepmom's dad to cancer. My grandpa had lung cancer (gotta love smoking) and my step-grandpa had prostate cancer that they caught in the last stages.
Decca I pray your fil gets through his chemo and it goes into remission for him.
Tracy I'm sorry for your SOs best friend and your great aunt.

Yes it is. My fil is currently undergoing his second round of chemo. It is horrible.

Unfortunately, there will be no remission. This type of cancer doesn't really get "better". They do the chemo to keep it at bay. He has Multiple Myeloma, a form of bone cancer. It is what the dad from "Everybody Loves Raymond" died from a few years ago.
