Ferris Wheel Day

When : Always February 14th

George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr. a civil engineer, made the first Ferris Wheel at the World's Colombian Exhibition in Chicago in 1893.

The purpose of this day is obvious... to celebrate the birthday of this great inventor and to enjoy his invention. The trouble is, there aren't many carnivals, amusement parks or fairgrounds operating in mid-February in North America. You may have to settle with enjoying old photos of trips to a fair or amusement park.

Frederick Douglass Day

Born into slavery, Frederick Douglass made his mark in history as an abolitionist with a special place in his heart for America and its founding principles. Douglass, who knew only that he was born sometime in February 1818, chose the 14th as his birthday because his mother, who died when Douglass was around eight years-old, called him her “little valentine.”

It’s only fitting, then, that we remember Douglass on this Valentine’s Day — and his contribution to America

National Have a Heart Day

The goal of this celebration of life is to create a new consciousness concerning the impact of our food choices on the environment, world hunger, animal welfare and human health—especially heart health. Vegetarian diets increase longevity and help prevent—and even reverse—heart disease. Total vegetarians live about 15 years longer than nonvegetarians and suffer less than one-tenth the heart disease death rate of nonvegetarians

2013 National Condom Day

Currently, condoms are the only widely available, proven method for reducing transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) during intercourse. Organizations around the world recommend condom use for the prevention of pregnancy and HIV/STIs.

ASHA supports the promotion and use of male latex condoms to limit the spread of STIs and their harmful consequences. Condoms are effective when people use them correctly and consistently.

Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day

February 14 is celebrated as Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day. A day of heart gives us a chance to take on a human cause for promoting the awareness of congenital heart defects. On this special day a concerned global effort come together to heighten awareness of this deadly group of diseases. Some non profit organization, families, support groups and professionals has taken some great efforts and joined hands together to increase the public awareness of heart disease in children. Congenital Heart Disease is said to be the most common birth defect and has become a leading cause for birth defects related deaths worldwide. It is said to be lethal constellation of birth defect that is affecting millions and millions of new born babies and it has been claiming thousands of lives every year.

Congenital Heart Disease affects more than 1.8 million families around the world and on the contrary a very small amount of funding is available for parent & patient educational services and support. It is one of the sincere hopes that more efforts are put together to educate the public this will result in early diagnosis and improving the situation of the same. With additional funding & support for educational services, scientific research and access to quality of care for children and adults.

There are several things people should know about CHD; firstly that it is a birth defect and it affects 1% of newborn babies over 40,000 babies born every year. Awareness must be raised for the need of funding for CHD research and also for the need of organ and blood donation. Lastly people should know that there is a support for families dealing with CHD and with more and more hands joining that support organization the support will be extended.

Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day: We celebrate this day in honour and to remember all those people who are born with heart defect and all of the families and friends who have been touched by our heroic heart children. There are more than 1 million alive in the world that are born with a heart defect. On this auspicious day we also recognize those medical professionals who take care of the heart of children and who are involved in the research of hope which will cure or prevent heart defects in future.

14 February is said to be the day of love. Where love is in the air; flowers and cards are delivered and exchanged. February has been known for romance as long as you can remember. But February is not just the day for the candy hearts and heart-shaped cards. Unfortunately it is also known for heart disease and heart attacks. Be whatever this day is dedicated to the heart. Congenital heart defect awareness day puts an effort to help and educated people about congenital heart defects and invites participants from worldwide to celebrate this day. Participants includes individual, social group, national and local organization which center itself throughout the world and pay honour to all those people who are involved in this Congenital Heart Defects in some way or the other.

There are many who are working on gaining awareness for the congenital heart defects and during this day a lot of efforts are put by the radio stations, magazines and newspapers. They look for heart related stories and create a special event for this day

League of Women's Voters Day

A bunch of women had met and decided on how to get woman to become responsible voters in the political system.  An important day as within a few months from this meeting, woman get the right to vote.  I honestly cannot imagine a time when women were not even asked for their opinions.  Considering they make up half of the population, I have always found this to be surprising.
