My poor doggie

Our Shiba Inu loves going for boat rides.  He DETESTS actually being in the water though.

We were returning from a boat ride while on vacation, and he decided he really, really wanted to get on the dock, so he attempted to jump FROM the boat to the dock before we were tied down.

Unfortunately, he missed.

Even MORE unfortunately, we had tied his leash down so he wouldn't jump out (he likes to jump and snap at bugs and thinks the bobbers are a "ball" for him to chase) while we were fishing.

So anyway, he jumped out, landed in the water, and the leash was too tight on his neck and they *say* all dogs can swim, but he panicked and instinctual swimming did NOT kick in. :(

I was on the dock starting to tie up the boat, so I let that go, jumped on my belly and grabbed him from the water.  So, there I am sprawled on the dock, half over the water, holding a panicking dog up out of the water while my kids are trying to untie the leash - but the boat is drifting away so it's starting to pull me all the way in.

DH managed to use the oar to push the boat back, and in the end all was well except my sunglasses that fell off and sank to the mucky bottom.

Can't say we didn't have any adventures on this vacation!

Oh no! Sounds like quite the adventure. The good part is, the kids will LOVE these stories when they're older. :)
