Um, wow.  I thought that Merriam-Webster was supposed to be for formal definitions.  Can't Urban Dictionary handle slang?  I get Emoji and Selfie being on there as those are actual words to describe a THING, not slang for something else.

I"ve heard of all of these, but I'm surprised that some weren't in there yet and others are actually being added already. Fauxhawk has been a term around since I was a kid, but seriously, why was srsly added? Is 'u' defined as 'you' as well, because the logic is pretty similar.

I think they've recently gotten lax on what words they are formally introducing, but slang terms have been added (and removed) since forever. Lots and lots of words were once considered 'slang' and are now a formal word, thanks to the word's popularity at any given period.

Shakespeare's contributions to the English language, for example, is rather expansive.

I have heard of 8 of those.  Can't say I like most of those and don't think they deserve to be recognized as real words.
