Woman in Florida Gets Stuck on Opening Drawbridge

.

Being stuck behind a drawbridge that's opening when you are in a rush can really put a damper on your day, but what about getting stuck on an opening drawbridge? That seems far worse, but that's exactly what happened in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to a 55-year-old woman on Saturday. From about 22 feet in the air, she clung to the bridge, waiting to be rescued, as onlookers called 911. Once the fire department did arrive, it used a 24-foot ladder to bring her down to the cheering crowd. The woman had reportedly just finished a walk against breast cancer when she crossed the bridge, which began going up with her on it. The bridge is not for pedestrians and has a No Trespassing sign in front of it.

Most of the first reports on this story broke on Twitter, where bystanders shared images of the scene. The woman walked away from the ordeal unharmed, but the city of Fort Lauderdale is not happy. It released a statement saying her bridge crossing was "an unfortunate poor choice that endangered the trespasser's life and the lives of the first responders." We just hope she wasn't texting while walking!

I think it's hilarious.  Yes, she was probably terrified.  But I bet she pays attention to signage from now on.  If it says "No Trespassing", do you think she's going to trespass?

BTW, I'm so mean that I kind of hope she got a trespassing ticket.  If she makes an example out of herself, maybe more people will pay attention to potential consequences.

If you're mean, then so am I!  I totally think she should be ticketed and have to pay for the emergency responders who never should have had to be there in the first place!

Thank GOD I'm not the only one who thinks this!  I get not paying for things beyond your control, but this is 100% preventable by her.

I completely agree! If people were held accountable for their actions more often, chances are we wouldn't be reading as many stories like this one.

I would have been so scared. It is her fault though and she now looks like a complete moron to the whole world.
