Three "male" fish. All alone. Today, 13-20 babies. Petco swore they were male.

some fish will randomly change their sex to perpetuate their species.  It depends which ones, not all do that.  Some frogs do it as well.

Petco  knows nothing about sexing fish.  Often you won't know until they get home and they start popping out babies ;)  To be fair, sexing fish is difficult.  Males have a tiny little addition behind their bottom fin that females don't and they have to be holding perfectly still for you to see it.
