We did time-outs in the corner, facing the wall, nose in a circle, but I did spank for big things like when she ran out into the street (no cars were coming, thankfully, but it scared me!).
I've been around families that spank and families that do not. You know, it's one of those things that I just don't think work on a toddler...or any kid, really. I kinda feel that spanking is an outlet for the parent's frustration as opposed to a lesson for the child. But then, we all have our different views on it and what works for one family may not for another.
My mom used to say that she reserved spankings for the big stuff. Like my brother running out in the middle of the street or if we wandered off when we were told not to (when we were old enough to understand) or something like that. It was the ultimate punishment (or threat of...I think my mom spanked me once) that we all lived in fear of, lol. It was effective...but only because we were so well loved and coddled that the thought of physical punishment was a big thing to us.
I do spank my kiddos. Its usually a quick little pop on the butt. I do it when they put themselves in danger, and wont listen. Like if they keep running out in the road, or if they try to play with the light socket or something.
My kids are 7 & 9 now. We did swat them on the butt when we needed to. I can't even remember what we spanked them for, it was a rare occurrance. It's been years now since we have had to resort to spankings. We have figured out how to hurt them more than spanking them.....take away their electronics. I'm still not necessarily opposed to it, but we have found what works without doing it.
I dont spank
I haven't done it in awhile, but I have spanked my kids. I did it when my child wouldn't listen and then got mad and threw something and injured her sister. We tend to stick to time outs. Those seem to work best :)
