Allergies

Do any of your children have allergies? If so, how did you find out?

My toddler has nose bleeds a lot and I was told by my sister-in-law that my neice started out with getting nose bleeds and that is how they found out she had allergies. We did talk to the doctor about his nose bleeds a while ago, but I wasn't told about the allergies yet. I wonder more so now because sometimes my son will get little tiny bumps on his skin, either arms or legs at times. Lately he has a rash on his bottom that starts to go away, but sometimes gets worse. So I am just wondering about allergies.

He does also get stuffy nose everyday now and rubs his eyes at times.

I will talk to his doctor about all of this, but I'm not able to make an appointment until the beginning of September. So I just wanted your opinions now. THank you so much!

Dd is 17 months. She gets a runny nose, coughs/sneezes a little, and rubs her eyes. I probably would have chalked it up to teething if it had not happened at the same time my allergies got so bad this season. Her doc told me it was fine to give her 1/2 teaspoon of benadryl when it seems to bother her. I would not think a rash would be related to the same type of allergies. My dd did have some bumps in small areas and the doc said eczema. They gave her somenointment, I switched soaps, and it went away.

Thank you. I will switch soaps for him and see if the rash goes away.

my daughter has bad allergies and sensitivities to lots of things- from foods to outside to soaps... we have used cetaphil to wash her hair and bathe her, and we use lotion after her bath too. we have always used hypoallergenic laundry detergent too. her eyes get runny and red and her nose stops up.... we use benedryl. allergies are so horrible to deal with at a young age... good luck.

My daughter seems to have seasonal allergies...but they've been getting better/easier to deal with each season (thank God!).  It seems like during those times, spring in particular, I have to keep her inside more than I'm happy with.  I also make use of an air purifier and daily saline spray for her nose.  Extra vitamin C to keep her immune up. Daily baths and washing her hands so that the pollen or whatever isn't sitting on her skin, irritating her.  It may seem like a lot, but it's all just part of that daily routine that keeps her comfy.

Aww I'm sorry. Poor little one. So much to deal with at such a young age.
Thank YOU.

Good ideas. I think that would help too. I forget about the saline spray at times and then he does seem to get worse. I have to try and remember.

Zyrtec is available in liquid form now. If you think your toddler has allergies, try it and see if it makes a difference. Also, my son has nose bleeds at times and he has terrible allergies. I will put vaseline on a Qtip and rub it inside his nostrils. It keeps the inside of the nostrils from drying out and cracking which is usually what causes the nose bleeds themselves. Good luck!
