Was his household run this way? How we are raised plays heavily into how we think raising a child should be like.

It's a very inportant discussion that should be had way before saying " I do"

You have at least 14 more years to go in rearing this one child, bonding between father and son starts now., the connection can be lost before it begins if he doesn't start participating NOIW. Force it if needed, pick up your purse one Saturday and say I'll be back later, spend sometime with ____ while I'm gone, he's a pretty cool kid, and walk out the door for a couple of hours. Don't answer the phone.

Well, then.... That's the ideology he grew up with. One is swimming against a up a river with craggy rocks and fast running rapids when attempting to mess with someone's childhood belief system, correct, incorrect, or just different...., even victims of abuse as a child are likely to continue to be victims as adults because that's what feels... Comfortable , what the expected.... Heck some become the victimizers

That's a very dramatic example, yes, but if that is how he was " nurtured " then he'd expect the same.

The only other possible discussion opener would be if he had poor relationship with his dad and go that route.
