Did you explain to your child where does the food come from?

My dd is 4 and we were having fish one night and she has a fish and she blurted out and started crying that we were eating his best friend!! Omg it was horrible! So we tried to explain but she was so heartbroken that she was eating something that was once alive and well. So we gave up and haven't even started with the cow! How about you?

I'm waiting for that connection to happen. I once was baby sitting my cousin that was 4 at the time that eggs were baby chickens. He refused to eat them for weeks. My son is almost 4 and hasn't asked yet... So I will watch and learn also.

Meats not so much yet, ds is 3, he understands chickens lay eggs, and he knows we eat the veggies from the garden. We have not reached where meats come from. Im hoping him being a very practical child will keep hysterics at bay.
