Dumpster Divas and Thrift Store Queens
I have always thought it would be cool to go dumpster diving but I am very whary about it because I am afraid that it would be illegal and that I could get in trouble for doing it. You moms talk about all the cool stuff you get and I want to be able to do that but am a big chicken. LOL I live in Kentucky!

From what I undertand, once it is put on the street for trash pick up, or out in a dumpster for trash, than it is not illegal to take it. I have taken things from the curb before...Someone put out about 20 really nice baskets for the trash. They had them sitting next to the can on the ground, so I took them all. Go for it!
If you really want to be sure it is not illegal, you can always call your local police station and ask!

by mancosmomma on Aug. 27, 2008 at 11:01 AMI dumpster dive my neighbor's trash. Since her trash can actually sits on my property, I don't think it would ever be a problem. LOL! I just pulled out a perfectly good set of crutches; the 2nd pair I've gotten out of her trash. The first pair we kept, the 2nd I donated to the thrift shop. Oddly enough, people frequently dumpster dive the thrift shop in town. The thrift shop gets SO much stuff, they toss what they have too much off. I've pulled out a brand-new baseball cap that was sitting right on top. I later found out they had "too many baseball caps" so they tossed even the new ones! I think the laws vary by state. If you are diving in a dumpster on private property, it could be considered trespassing. If you are trash-picking what someone left of the curb, you would have to have incredibly bad luck to get caught; I don't spend more than a few moments. |
