This is something my husband wrote about the appleseed shot, so I thought I would share with you ladies! ;)

For those of you who do not know what the RWVA is, I'll give you a quick run down. The Revolutionary War Veteran's Association's Appleseed Project is a program that instructs Americans on the traditional rifle marksmanship skills that have been passed down from generation to generation, along with reconnecting today's Americans with the people and events of the Founding era. Participants are taught fundamental rifle marksmanship skills that are required to allow a Rifleman to be accurate out to 500 yards, with iron sights, a standard rifle and surplus ammo. This is the traditional 'Rifleman's Quarter mile', which is an uniquely American Rifleman skill, that has been part of this nation from the very first days.

Most of the instruction at an Appleseed is conducted at 25 meters, at reduced size targets to simulate 100 to 500 yards. This well proven technique allows us to concentrate on the shooter's mechanics and less time walking a range. At those locations that allow for actual distance shooting, participants are often able to see first hand that the skills that they learn at 25 meters directly apply to actual distances out to 500 yards. These foundational skills are not being passed on to future generations, and so Appleseeds are great for new or experienced shooters alike.

Why "Appleseed?"

"Appleseed" comes from Johnny Appleseed, the American folk hero who toured the country, planting appleseeds so that future generations would benefit. The Appleseed Project is designed to ensure the next generations will the benefit of the same Liberties as the generations before them.

Why the "Nationwide Tour?"

The Appleseed Instructors will travel anywhere in the nation, bringing the proven Appleseed course, as a complete, self-contained package, to your range/club/farm, so that you and your neighbors can experience Appleseed in your back yard.

Well enough with the intro to the program. Why I am sending out this e-mail is quite simple. One of the things that is taught at an Appleseed Shoot, is the simple fact that on any given day, the action or inaction of the individual can change the course of history. People all too often fall into the trap that they do nothing because they fear it would be too little to matter anyway.

This program began a few short years ago with the goal to double the attendance every year. Well we are far above that mark and word is spreading like wildfire. Attendees who think they are just going to learn how to shoot better, walk away with a new found sense of commitment to their Nation. This commitment has led us to several opportunities.

Over the past few years, we have had several Military Ranges open their doors to our program and allow us to conduct our Marksmanship/Heritage program free of charge. But recently we have had a great honor.

One of our Instructors was asked to instruct 20 Soldiers preparing to go overseas, on the art of being a Designated Marksmen. That INDIVIDUAL made an impression, and because he did not hesitate to step up to the plate and make a difference, the Appleseed Project of the RWVA, can report with great honor, that........

"This October 5-11, the South Carolina National Guard has asked Project Appleseed to come to FT Stewart, Georgia and teach a Battalion of soldiers preparing for a deployment overseas how to shoot!   This will be 7 continuous days of instruction with 42-84 soldiers a day receiving “Day1” of an Appleseed.  This unit is very excited about receiving this training.  The unit is a Field Artillery battalion that has been tasked with an Infantry type mission for a deployment overseas, so now they have to shift focus from the big guns to the little guns.

The unit will provide on-base billeting (lodging), three meals a day (2 hot meals and 1 MRE), and transportation around base between the billets, chow, and ranges.  All free of charge!

What I need are volunteers to staff and run the training, at least 3 upwards of 6 instructors a day.  Who wants to step up for this unique opportunity?  The training you will be providing to these soldiers will have a huge impact on there success overseas.  This will help our soldiers to make it back home safer and if used, will hopefully put a few more terrorists in the ground.

Preference for instructors will be given to those who are current military, then to those who are local to the SE, and the rest will be filled in from their.  If you can’t make all 7 days, no problem, just helping for a few days is greatly appreciated.  You will really be making a difference by providing this training to our troops.  Please reply to this post if you can help.  I will create an instructor schedule unique to this event."

Yes we as individuals can make a difference, and when we combine our effort through Teamwork, we can move mountains.

Of course Volunteering for that would be a great honor, of course you would need to be an RWVA Instructor first, and for that, you would need to be a Rifleman, and of course the only way to be a Rifleman is to go to an Appleseed Shoot. When your ready to make a difference with Appleseed, ask me for a schedule.

But even if you do not shoot, and you are not interested in going down the long path of becoming an RWVA Instructor, you may be able to help. I would like to provide this same opportunity to members of the Illinois National Guard or Reserve Units that call Illinois their home.

If you have any contacts within these Units, would you be willing to make a difference, by getting the RWVA’s foot in the door? If you have a contact but the unit does not have ties to Illinois, let me know anyway and I’ll forward to those who can run with the ball.
