Hi, I am Heather. My third child has been diagnosed with Oral and Verbal Apraxia. We are new to all of this and I am looking forward to learning new ways to help him communicate and gain his own speech capabilities.

Welcome! Our links section has a lot of great resources for Apraxia and other communication issues. Apraxia Kids is an especially good site and www.speakingofspeech.com has a wealth of info in it's materials exchange that is very useful for any speech language program. My child also has Apraxia. It has been very beneficial this summer to actually limit the sounds and words we worked on to provide a great deal of repetition and reinforcement ot the oral motor memory required for speech. The core vocabualry that resulted is much more easily recalled now. My son's oral motor communciaiton issues are very severe, and he has relied upon Signed Exact English and other supports to make up for the communication difficulties, but we are always pushing to gain more verbal ability. Where does the breakdown occur for your child, the sound, word, or sentence level?
