I apologize to those of you that are on several lists with me because you will now have seen me post this info. several times. I just learned about lapbooking and I am trying to think about its' usefulness across skill domains. I think it is a very creative idea and am really excited about using it.
I want to ask you to help me brainstorm how to utilize this tool for speech, vocabulary building, and communication improvements in our kids.
Obviously you don't have to be verbal to benefit form this, and in many ways I think you could incorporate visual and picture communication into something like this. For example, what about a lapbook for going into the community? Book parts dedicated to each location a child may visit with corresponding vocabulary/requests and for our kids with social skills deficits some small power card/social story expectations for that environment...church, doctor's office, therapist, dentist, store, friend's house, school, etc.
I'm going hunting on the Internet for more specific lapbooking examples and will post more pictures if I find them.
This is one of the neatest ideas I have heard of and so great for a visual and/or hands on learner! LAPBOOKING
Is anyone doing this? I feel like a just stepped off a plane into a new land and am so excited to try this. If any of you have done this please share your tips with me. It seems like it has almost limitless possibilities and would be fun and effective to use.
Lapbooking can be done by any learner-- from preschoolers to adults. With this learning technique, you make mini-books covering details that you've studied. After making a variety of mini-books about a larger topic, all the books are put together in a large folder. The finished product is called a lapbook.
