Lapbooking Communication Skills

I apologize to those of you that are on several lists with me because you will now have seen me post this info. several times.  I just  learned about lapbooking and I am trying to think about its' usefulness across skill domains.  I think  it is a very creative idea and am really excited about using it.

I want to ask you to help me brainstorm  how to utilize this tool for speech, vocabulary building, and communication improvements in our kids.

Obviously you don't have to be verbal to benefit form this, and in many ways I think you could incorporate visual and picture communication into something like this.  For example, what about a lapbook for going into the community?  Book parts dedicated to each location a child may visit with corresponding vocabulary/requests and for our kids with social skills deficits some small power card/social story expectations for that environment...church, doctor's office, therapist, dentist, store, friend's house, school, etc.

I'm going hunting on the Internet for more specific lapbooking examples and will post more pictures if I find them.

This is one of the neatest ideas I have heard of and so great for a visual and/or hands on learner!  LAPBOOKING

Is anyone doing this?  I feel like a just stepped off a plane into a new land and am so excited to try this.  If any of you have done this please share your tips with me.  It seems like it has almost  limitless possibilities and would be fun and effective to use.

Lapbooking can be done by any learner-- from preschoolers to adults. With this learning technique, you make mini-books covering details that you've studied. After making a variety of mini-books about a larger topic, all the books are put together in a large folder. The finished product is called a lapbook.

David  just  came home with a Reader's Theater play part for Grandparent's Day at his school and I am going to use a lapbook to practice the information (like reviewing signs and learning the new ones he needs to read/sign his part).  His aide says his lines aloud while he does the sign language for them using Signed Exact English.

I will take pictures and post them but it will not l ikely be the best example of a lapbook, as it will be our first.

and another to get lost in.  It makes me panic, knowing there is all this good stuff and not enough time and I don't know where to begin.

I just learned of lapbooking last month due to homeschooling and though the same things.  Since we are starting the schooling it seemed a bit overwhelming to do both, so we are getting our groove with this virtual academy first.  I wrote an article on my site about homeschooling and included links on lapbooking as well.

I think some call it notebooking too and I found a site called http://www.notebookingpages.com  I think that is it - typed it from memory.
