  Hi Ladies!

I'm new here....I'm the ICAN of Birmingham, AL chapter leader.

My roots are strong in Tulsa, OK. It's my home town of 24 years...and my husband, kids, and I visit often.

My mom has attended an ICAN and hopes to become more involved/supportive in the future.

The reason I joined this forum....I'm looking for a GREAT OBGYN for my younger sister. She is not expecting...yet...but it's in her future! And she has heard all the stories of my c-section experience as well as my VBAC.She would preferably like someone is is pro-life and natural childbirth minded.

Can anyone help me with this? Where do I look? Who do I recommend to her?

I figured you ladies might be able to help me!! THANK YOU!!

Warmly,

Carli in Birmingham

I would recommend Dr. James Ross hands down to anybody. While I have yet to deliver with him personally (I've been a patient if his one a year now & currently TTC #2 & planning a VBAC) I have several good friends that have & we all LOVE him. He is a Family Practicioner but does mostly maternity patents. He is a wonderful Christian, a husband & father of six children. My friend says he & his wife practice NFP & is very supportive of those who do. He was out of Southcrest Hospital but is/has switched to Saint Francis South. His office is closed for the month of June and they will be up and running in the new offices at the start of July. If your interested I have his new nber somewhere.

HTH!

I, too, recommed Dr. James Ross.  He is a family practioner that specializes in maternity.  He has a wonderful beside manner.  We are planning our VBAC for this December and he is very supportive with an amazing VBAC success rate!  My midwife friend recommended him and said she would send anyone to him.

Hi Carol, nice to see you posting here! Did you give your mom the info about this month's meeting? We love having her! :)

We had another thread about this awhile back: http://m.cafemom.com/groups/read_topic.php?group_id=49829&topic_id=11375029

Ditto Dr. Ross.

He is still at SouthCrest as well (last I heard).  The change is that he switched his office to SFS's medical building.

I'm kind of late to reply here, but if vbac is not an issue I would highly recommend Dr. Rita Sanders. I've never had a c/s but did have a long labor with my first that spiraled out of control intervention-wise and I did not end up with the unmedicated birth I so desperately wanted. I felt like such a failure! The second time I sought out a different doc (mostly because my first only delivered at the one hospital I was at before and I did not want to deliver there again). I interviewed Dr. Ross and others highly recommended here and elsewhere. Hands down, Dr. Sanders was the right choice. I dd not find Dr. Ross to be natural birth friendly, low intervention at all (feel free to message me for why I thought that). Anyhow, I went on to have a phenomenal birth experience and delivered (with dr sanders who came in to deliver me even though she wS not on call that weekend) a 9lb 14 oz baby totally unmedicated. I can give more details about why I did not feel dr. Ross wAs the right choice for ncb and about my experiences with sanders if you're interested. But I'm on my phone right now with a toddler sprawled across me so rulings a bit tough :)

It is very important to interview a few care providers and not go off of recommendations only.  What was a good match for one will not be a good match for another.  It's SO VERY essential that women choose someone they are comfortable with and a birth environment they feel safe in.

Having done several births with Dr. Ross I can say from experience that he IS natural birth friendly and low intervention.  As well as patient.  I'm sorry to hear you got a different feel for his care.
