So I finally found a great doctor.....Dr. Ross, and got a call today that he is no longer taking my insurance (BlueLincs HMO), because he has moved to St. Francis.  I found out last week that I am pregnant again (YAY!!)  I am due the first week of March.  I miscarried in April of this year, so what a blessing this is!!  Jan 1, 2011 I can switch my insurance to BlueChoice, which Dr. Ross accepts.  Dr. Ross' secretary told me that I could see someone else for my care up until Jan. 1st and then switch to Dr. Ross my last couple months of pregnancy.  So, I am very happy that I still have the option of seeing Dr. Ross, but sad that I have to find someone else in the mean time.  His secretary recommended Dr. Whitman out of Southcrest.  Anyone familiar with him or have suggestions for any other doctors out of the Southcrest group?  I thought I was done searching for a doctor, but here I am again!

p.s. my current insurance pays 0% for out of network doctors, otherwise I would continue to see Dr. Ross....but that would be outrageously expensive!!

Would you be open to seeing a midwife until you can switch your care to him?

OK, I'm confused because I thought he was also still delivering out of Southcrest as well.  But no matter, if he doesn't take your insurance, he doesn't!  The only other doctor I know if out of Southcrest is Dr. Harris & his CNM.  And of course you could always go see Dr. Whitman as his secretary suggested.  Just be aware that I don't think any of them attend VBACs (are you a VBAC mama?), but if you're clear to them that you're going to transfer care in January that shouldn't be a problem.   Or you could go with Heather's suggestion and see a midwife (I'll put a plug in for Heather & Tiffany & say that they're awesome! :) ).

Stephanie ~ He is.  But his office is at SFS and he prefers doing births there.  He is now with Warren Clinic.

If a woman desires a tubal, she has to be at SouthCrest for that procedure.

I don't know her, but I think that Rita Sanders takes that insurance, and I've heard that she does VBACs.  You would need to call her office to check though.  Like I said, I've never gone to her or anything...so I would ask around.  I guess it doesn't really matter though if your switching in January.  You might try a midwife until then too. :) Good luck finding someone, and CONGRATS!!!!! :)

Thank you Liz!  Things are going really well so far, so I have high hopes for this pregnancy.  Dr. Ross has really amazed me once again.  He told me that he prefers to see me throughout my entire pregnancy, even though he can't take my insurance until Jan. 1.  He is going to see me at a reduced rate and not go through my insurance.  He is so awesome!

Yeah!! Dr Ross IS amazing! So happy he is working with you. Have you all discussed where you'll deliver being a VBAC patient?

@ Octobertales....Originally I thought I was going to deliver at Southcrest due to my insurance, but since I will change insurance on Jan. 1, I have the option of St. Francis South or Southcrest.  I have heard that Southcrest is very natural birth friendly, which is what I am looking for :)

I have heard good things about the general care over at St. Francis South, not as much info about VBACs specifically.  I would definitely look into it, but this is coming from someone who has a bias against Southcrest.  So take that for what it's worth LOL!

I gave birth to my son at St. Francis Main and had a horrible experience.  I'm a little jaded when it comes to hospital care, so my expectations are not high for where ever I may go.  It's sad it has to be that way and I do hope that I am pleasantly surprised when the time comes :) I think having Dr. Ross will make my experience better.

C-sections I think always make us jaded! I had my first at St. John's...my doctor was great, the hospital was great, the nurses were great...the recovery was not. I'm betting that you will have a good experience with either place if you get your VBAC! :)
