Need Help Writing A Thank You Note

Hi, I have not been in the group for quite some time, things have just been crazy.  About a month ago my FIL passed away from Prostrate Cancer.  He was creamated, and at his memorial we asked for JDRF donations instead of flowers for his service.  We had several people donate in his name and I was wanting to send thank you notes to those who donated, can anyone help me with this?  I am not good at writing things like this.

When my MIL passed away in May we had some donations that were made to the JDRF in her name.  Just thank the giver for the generous donation and remembering this organization at this difficult time.  Their precious gift is much appreciated.

how about something like this:

the family of  ___ ____ thanks you for your donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  as you know, this is a cause that is dear to our family.  your thoughtfulness and generosity in this difficult time brings us comfort as we know that gifts like yours help families like ours.
