Unable to control sugars

Hello everybody. I have not posted in a long time due to having a very busy life and almost not net. My son has been T1 for one year now and it seems that it is actually worse then it was when he was first diagnosed! His A1C is higher then it has ever been and sometimes it seems that the insulin does very little to bring his sugar down. When I took him to the doctor last they treated me like this is my fault and that I am simply not taking care of him as I should when I know I am. He is currently on lantus and humalog and his doses keep getting higher and higher. Some days I give him the insulin and it doesn't even hardly bring his sugar down and other days it takes it to far down. I am truly just at a loss as to what to do and I am terrified that when we go back to the doctor they are going to say it is my fault when I know I am doing everything I can. Somethings got to give ..... Any help?

Did the endo make any changes to his dosages?  Is he/she having you call in his numbers for a few days?

I email all his numbers every week. The endo is constantly making changes it just seems that some times the insulin just does not work as well as it should. He is on an insulin/ carb ratio and 15 units of lantus at night.

How old is he?  How often do you check bg?  Could he be going low and rebounding?  Rebound highs are difficult to get down.

Oops. I had you confused with another member.  I forgot your son is older and going through puberty.  Not looking forward to that. LOL.  I won't be any help.  =)

My girls aren't close to your son's age (mine are 5 and 2) but I have been told that puberty can really mess with blood sugar. Also, has he already come out of honeymoon? If not, I would think maybe he is now and, combined with puberty, you got hit hard! Is a pump an option for you? Both my girls are pumping and their numbers got a lot better once we started that, because you can change the insulin to fit the need a lot easier. My 2 year old's March a1c was horrible because she had grown and inch and 3 llbs in a month and i just couldn't keep up with it. It isn't your fault. You can only do so much. Is there another endo in your area? They shouldn't be blaming you for things out of your control and if you can switch to another endo, I would try and do that. Is his endo a pediatric one because they would understand the growing/puberty better than an adult one.

Yes Nathan is out of his honeymoon stage. Puberty is simply kicking his butt right now and it seems that no matter how hard we try we simply can not keep his sugar down. It really is very frustrating for both of us. His endo is a ped. And I really liked her up to this point. Now it seems she wants to play the blame game and I am the one to blame.

I would talk to her about a pump for him. I am puttingy son on one and frankly I think lantus is a crock and doesn't work on everyone like it should. My son is also on humalog and lantus (I give it because the doc says). But his sugars are all over too. One day he'll do great then I can't get them down then he drops to much. I have heard that puberty is hard to get through.

Wow,  We are only three weeks into this shitty journey called t1.  My daughter is on Novalog and Lantus but right now her carb ratio is 50/1 and she get's 1 unit of Lantus at night.  And her numbers kind of are irratic however the doctor said more than likely it's because she's going into the honeymoon phase of this so they adjusted her numbers last week.

Honestly as with any other doctor, if you don't feel your getting the answers or enough help, get a second opinion.  Or a third even.

Good luck<

Even though I want my son to pump he is very against it, he says the needle is to big. Also at his last appointment I asked about it and the doc said we had to wait until his sugars were more under control UGH!
