We had our follow up appointment with CPS today...my heart was beating out of my chest all morning I was so scared of them taking my baby away. All went well, the guy said he had no intent on taking my kids and he never did. He said he hads worked with enough T1 kids to know that sometimes things like this happen. We will have counseling for 6 months, in home. He said this is more for Nathan because they want to make sure he understands everything going on with his body. While I would rather people not come to my house I am ok with it. This may actually be a good thing for him and help him a lot.
On a side note we have had major changes in his doses since leaving the hospital. We started out at 120/80 and 1 unit per 6 carbs and 23 lantus. We are now at 120/80 and 1 unit per 15 carbs and 18 lantus. He is still having lows with that dose! It is like his body is doing some funky thing that I just don't understand lol. All I know is that is ONE day we had 7 lows and we are having lows in the middle of the night as well! I swear when he was put into hospital it was because we could not get his sugar down at all and now we cant keep it up. Soooooo ready to throw in the towel and wave the white flag lol.
Thank goodness.
I doubt I will word this properly but, when you have high blood sugar (especially for awhile) then it increases your insulin resistance...does that make sense? So once you get the blood sugar back in control then you have to lower the amount of insulin (sometimes massively).
I hope you are contacting the endo to discuss the amount of lows and having them make changes. Since CPS is involved I think you should have a notebook to document everytime you talk to the doctor and the changes they make.
Yep right now I am emailing the Dr twice a week at least! I also write all his numbers down including amount of carbs eaten and of course all his new doses when they are changed. I so want to find that happy middle ground with good bloodsugars but I believe it is hiding from us!
