Ok we saw the nutritionist the other day because my daughyter always seemed really hungry and I couldn't figure out why. Come to find out she just wasn't getting enough. When she was dx the hospital never really showed me how to count carbs and stuff so I kinda went with what they told me come to find out she just wasn't getting enough. When she complained about being hungry after so many times I would give her a little extra then feel guilty because now I was worried about her blood suger I am so glad that I saw the nutritionist because since then my daughter hasnb't complained she's hungry because we have been measuring more accuretly and she's able to get much more than she was its very reassuring. I feel so horrible that she was hungry for 7 months and it was all because I wasn't taught right anyone else have this issue.
Mom to 5 kids. Don'T judge me cause you don't know me. I am a total vax no delay,circumcising,pro life,don't follow any routine,disposable diapering,milk at 11 months,cold medicine giver,non judgemental,to a type 1 diabetic,soda giviing,fun loving mom to Monica(8) Anastasia(6) nikki(5) Veronica (2) Nicholas (11m)
Trust me, we all feel guilty about things. Everyone feels like they make mistakes, I know I have. I have given my son a shot only to realize we counted wrong. He has had lows, and in thinking about it, I realize that I figured carbs on soemthing wrong. Shit happens! We do the best we can, and it isn't easy. My doctor would not let us leave the hospital with out son until he gave us a quiz to be sure that we knew what we were doing! We passed, but barely. We have made huge strides with what we know in the past 6 years.
Don't feel bad, my son was doing the same thing. I felt so bad for giving him the extra snacks. But they told me that I was counting wrong, and showed me how to do it right. he hospital only showed me how to do the shots not how to carb count. But now I feel like I can do it in my sleep. I still get things wrong and we have lows and highs, but we work through it and try not to do that again. It will get better. Don't beat yourself over it, we are just humans. Everyone makes mistakes.

when you know better, you do better....now you are on the right track and i congratulate you for going to the nutritionist and asking your questions. for me, i think there is a lesson here for us all: if something doesn't seem right - listen to it! ask questions and find the answers. i know that if i had listened to my girl's complaints and my mommy-gut sooner, she would have been dx'd sooner.
also, can you ask the nutritionist to follow up with the hospital as far as their education goes? that was their responsibility and they dropped the ball in a bad way. it needs to be addressed. it could cause very serious problems for people newly dx'd.

WEll I would ask her but unfortenutelyI went to a different hospital with her and had different insurance. Now i have aetna and if she went to childrens dc she I would of been offered a class where she was dx 'd they didn't offer that which kinda aggitates me because I could have really had some issues.

Don't worry darlin, you don't want to hear the restrictions my oldest had when we first left the hospital I felt like the worst mom in the word. He couldn't even have milk with his meals because it was just too many carbs, or if he did have it to him the size was a tease.
Once we went to ratios our lives changed for the better.
