My daughter Zoey is home with H1N1, as is her little sister Mia. I have been worrying myself sick over her getting this, and here we are! I just wanted to post, as she is doing pretty well. Sugar has remained good, and she is negative for ketones. Her fever is around 102, cough, runny nose, chills, and tired. But she is still happy, and once the advil kicks in, she is downstairs playing video games, and Barbies with her sister. It looks as if we will be home all week, as the duration has been 3-5 days, with an additional day at home, before they are not contagious. They are both on Tamiflu, and that theoretically should shorten the duration of the illness by 30%. Make sure if your little one starts with symptoms, to get them on the Tamiflu right away. It is only effective if taken within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. It is supposed to help prevent this from turning into something worse....ie pneumonia or bacterial infection.
We are keeping plenty of fluids in Zoey, and she has her CGMS to help with keeping her sugar in a safe range. Other than that, time is the best cure!!!!!!!
I just wanted to alleviate some of the panic, as I have been sick from watching the TV ect. It hasn't been any worse than flus she has had in the past. This is actually the first flu which she has been negative for ketones. She has been hospitalized for up to 6 days in the past, as her typical pattern is low blood sugar, large ketones. So this is not nearly as scary as the normal flu has been for us!!!!!!!!
Good luck,

We have not received flu shots yet. Our doctor won't have the vaccine until the end of November so we have to get them at a clinic somewhere. I have a hard time thinking about what it will be like in the middle of Walmart, CVS, or where ever when they are screaming their heads off cuz they're getting a shot. As for the H1N1 vaccine I have to look into the risks of getting the vaccine before I make that call.
Thank you for your post. I have been worrying myself sick with this as well. Also, is the shot safe or not etc, etc. Anyway, you have helped. I am just curious, what was your first symptom?
