Hi. My son is 3 and does not have eczema but has lamellar ichthyosis. The doctors say he does get eczema at times but it doesn't present as it normally does due to the LI.
Ichthyosis is life changing as I am sure eczema is as well. Basically the kind of ichthyosis he has entails the following:
* he is lacking a genetic enzyme that allows the dead skin on your body to break down and slough off naturally
*he consumes more claroies and liquid than most kids his age due to a high metabolism associated with the ichthyosis
*his skin requires someone to physically peel and remove it. It will actually begin to rot and get a funky smell if this is not done often (a little/or alot each day).
*when you remove the skin from the scalp, you remove hair at the same time.
*just when you get a lotion routine that works, suddenly it doesn't anymore
*bathe as little as possible or the skin is like sandpaper
*skin cracks and bleeds, eyelids will invert, can get blind spots in vision if eyes are not kept most, must have skin removed from ears every 3 months or so.
I think I just wrote a book. This is only a fraction of what ichthyosis entails. I hope even though we are not dealing with eczema that we will be welcome to share our trials and tribulations here as well. If this is not the right group for me, let me know and I will keep on searching.
