10 minute breastfeeding

my doctor said that i should only allow my daughter to feed for 10 minutes because the rest of the time she's just sucking for fun - is this true i want to make sure she's getting enough

I'm sorry, but your doctor is an idiot.  Let your child suckle until satisfied.  I hate doctors that pretend to know what they are talking about.  10 minutes on each breast maybe... anyway, you should check out Mothering magazine.  it is a great reference for all things mommy.  Also the editor of the magazine Peggy O'mara published a book called "Natural Family Living" that has been pretty great to have around.  By the way, the longer your child suckles, the more your milk production is stimulated.  Coming from a mom who stopped producing enough for her second child, production is very important.
