I just found this group and thought Id try it out, my husband is trying to find a job as a "roughneck". We live in a small town where the economy is terrible and really the whole town is just terrible. We will probably be having to move back in with his parents once we are able to sell our way to small house and he really wants to do this. I fully support him on it. I don't know a ton about it other than he'll be gone a lot and he knows he will travel a lot obviously. He applied at a few and called one of the recruiters and they said they weren't doing interviews right now. So I was wondering if you ladies could let me know about some other companies he could apply at and any tips that would be helpful I would REALLY appreciate it. Just reply to this or PM me.
Thanks so much in advance!
DO NOT go with Nabors. We are with them currently and they are totally dicking us around with our pay. "opps we forgot" if that makes any sense... we were with greywolf before we switched to nabors, and boy was that a mistake! greywolf was awesome, but from what i hear they were bought out by a different company.
Thank you for the tip!! =] He's been calling around trying to get an interview with any of them he can get through to. So far still no luck tho
I heard nabors was great actually but Im in Canada, might be different. My husband got a job with Trinidad and really liked them but ended up taking a job with Excalibur. So far he is really happy. They treat him really well and the pay is higher than the other companies and he moves up faster because the rigis smaller. I think they have about 10 rigs. I know its really safe which was a huge concern of mine. The driller on my husbands site said in ten years he has not seen one accident. So far so good.
He's applied at pretty much every drilling company there is. Is there a certain time they usually hire or something? So far the best lead is precision drilling (they bought out grey wolf). They said they aren't doing interviews right now but would be pulling applications in a week or two so dh is going to call back once a week there until hopefully they give him an interview. But everywhere seems to all do big recruiting events and none of them are recruiting right now so Im wondering if they only do it a few times a year or something?
Yeah he applied there too

Have u tried patterson UTI?
Hey! my husband worked as a roughneck for a while too with excalibur. WORSE company ever. they were all high all the time and even his push was trying to get him to do drugs with him telling him "dont worry we dont drug test"....when my husband refused they threatened to taser him. he also had a gun pulled on him. they are also SO racist (which im sure wasnt the company but most companies out there). when he didnt take part in the jokes they called him a pussy (grow upppppppppp). he was sleeping in this crap house full of mold and mice and was so sick and came home with half an ear lobe (maybe if everybody wasnt on MUSHROOMS while working this wouldnt have happened). he now is an MWD with ryan energy and LOVES it. there are so many directions you can go- drilling side or directional side. funny about that comment about nabors cause we have heard nothing but good things from nabors. Ryan energy is the directional side of nabors and we abosultely love them. other awesome companies are
precision, trinidad, savannah.
we heard to to go with smaller companies cause your not just a number. i would stay away from this advice. they dont have as high safety records and dont have as much responsibility plus during break up you dont have as much chances to work through. also with the big companies you move up faster because with excalibur you had to wait for somebody to quit to move up cause there arent many rigs.
good luck. its hard at first with all the traveling but you get used to it. i have two little kids and all my friends thinik im crazy but i would never have him go back to working 9-5. the quality time is just not there. we love it because hes gone for 3 weeks and then hes HOME and we can do so much together. the kids are way closer to him too because they see him more than just at bedtime.
