What if President Obama came on the news and told EVERYONE that we aren't allowed to leave our houses for a month, starting tomorrow.

The stores would be crowded of people trying to buy everything off of the shelves.  You probably couldn't get things that you needed, even if you tried to go get them.  So, would be be ready?  Could you survive a month without leaving your house for ANYTHING?

What would be the first thing that you would start running low on?  What would you want to run to the store to get, only to find that it's completely gone, or that the stores are price gouging everything.  What would you do?

I'd need to refill a couple of prescriptions and get another 50 lb. of flour, then I'd be ready.  Our pantry and 3 freezers are PACKED full.  Hubby's getting a turkey from work this week as his holiday bonus and I have no idea where to put it.

Ooo Interesting question.  I think we're pretty good for a month, but I would definately need to go get some more diapers now!

I think we would be fine.  I might want to try and get some fresh produce/milk/eggs though.

I know for sure I could make it at least 2 weeks but probably longer if I rationed well. I just started my storage last Sunday though lol. The first thing I would run low on it eggs, milk, and toilet paper.

Yeah, I am SO not ready for that.  I've allowed myself to slip on keeping up with stuff since my husband's income dropped so rapidly a few months ago.  I'm trying to make a plan to get back on track, but it's difficult with Christmas coming as well... ugh.

I am certain I could do a month no problem. Our local store stopped carrying the milk that we like, so I am low on milk. But sil has goats, so I would probably borrow a goat for a month for milk. The only other thing we would not have is my prescription for an entire month. I am trying to talk to the dr to up our supply. Also I don't have any feminine products. I am bfing though and haven't a need for them and haven't bought any for when i do. I would just have to improvise and make some if I needed to.

Great question!

I would be fine on food things. I need more diapers for sure though. I would miss some of the "extras", but we'd totally be able to survive. I might have to get a little creative for some things, but we'd be just fine for a month. Make it three months and yeah... we'd have a harder time.

One time our ward had a food storage challenge for a month and it was great to find out where the holes in our food storage was. I think we had five families involved. It was kind of like that though, on the first Sunday of the month the bishop pulled each family into his office before Sacrament Meeting and asked if they would be willing to live entirely off their food storage for a month. The exception was school lunches. I think I was a freshman or sophomore in high school.

Sounds like you guys will be having turkey soup/enchiladas/casserole then!!  :)

Well... if we could still get water from the tap, we'd be okay. We stock up on diapers and wipes whenever we go out of town because we can get better deals. We'd be hurting a little since I don't have any egg substitute on hand, but that would be okay. We've got evaporated milk and calcium gummies to make sure we get enough on the milk front. We've got frozen/canned vegetables, meats, soups, and beans a plenty. We have toilet paper and other hygiene supplies (though some of them won't be needed until June or so when the baby comes). We also have contact solution for me, soap, shampoo, etc.

We even have dessert on hand. Someone wise told me once that if you're really having a hard time of it financially, you'd still want treats, especially for special occasions.

As for money... it would be a little tight, but we could probably last a month if DH couldn't go to work.

If you make the supplies on hand challenge for a year, we definitely couldn't do it. We're not to that point yet, but we're pretty stocked for a month.

Unemployment (or under-employment) is one of the best reasons to have food storage on hand from what I've heard. If you aren't stocking up right now because you need to use your supplies, I'm sure the Lord will understand.

It's reasons like this that I'm glad we store food... just in case. I'm a SAHM so we only have DH's income, and if something went wrong, we'd really be stuck, but at least we could feed our family.
