My husband and I have decided to set aside $100 a month towards our food storage. Everything has to be able to be purchased at the grocery store, so nothing from shelf reliance or anything like that. This month I got a few cases of things from a small case lot sale at Smith's. I got a case of 24 Chef Boyardee ravioli, a case of cream of chicken soup, a case of tomato soup, a case of Hormel chili, a case of cup of noodles and a case of chicken chow mein and I got 10 boxes of cake mix. I need some ideas of other things I should get.
So, what would you stock up on if you were going to spend $100 a month on food storage?
With $100 this month I would buy:
2 cases diced tomatoes, $24
2 cases black beans, $24
2 cases Great Northern beans, $24
and
1 pail of dry rice
(We're huge bean eaters and rice eaters, but oddly never together!)
My first thing would be water
then i would get nutritional bars( they can be easy to carry meal holdovers when having to be on the good or u have no way to cook anything)
I would buy especially if its a case sale a few cases of veggies,a few cases of canned meat like chili or beef stew, chicken noodle and tomato soup. What kind of items do they have in case sales?
GOD first ppl next things last you cant go wrong and w/ GOD and JESUS around you,you will be a a triple strand rope
If I had $100 a month that was outside the regular grocery budget I would use at least $50 a month of it to stock up my basic staples. Flour, sugar, water, beans, rice etc. When I got my 3 month supply of everyday foods and some staples I would save the money for a couple of months and get a grain grinder then would start buying and using wheat.
At bigger case lot sales, that are usually in March in my area, they have pretty much all canned items in the case lot sales. I'll be setting aside $200 that month and probably not getting as much the next month. :)
Wish we had a place close enough that had case sales.Even if I had to drive 30-45 min it might be worth it.

It wouldn't hurt to call your local stores and see if they have an annual case lot sale or if they give a discount for case goods. Even at my closest grocery store, in a town of 400 people, are case lot sales twice per year. (They generally don't advertise the sale outside of their store, and you have to pre-order on an in-store order form). Typically they reduce the can price about 5 cents, so a case of 12 is only 60 cents cheaper than if you were to purchase them normally.
Another store I shop at in the Big Town will sell any item at a case discount. The savings are even less impressive, as they knock only 2 cents off per can.
Those pennies will eventually add up, I suppose...
