I'm hoping to get a FoodSaver by the end of the month, and I have some questions before I buy:
I've noticed a few different brands... Are there any you've had a bad experience with? Recommendations?
Does the jar attachment work on regular and wide mouth jars equally?
Is it beneficial to add an oxygen absorber, or is all of the oxygen really removed?
Thanks!
LOVE my food saver, got it last year with the tax return. I have the food saver brand, and have had no issues with it. It can with the jar attachment, but I have yet to use it.
It does indeed pull all the oxygen out, so no need for the absorbers. We have sealed all the small items in our BOB with it. I am sealing the antibiotics that we got a few months ago, also since the quanity was so large, along with the basic prep food items and medical supplies. I like the plastic, it is much thicker than the mylar. Guess this really does not answer all your questions...but I highly recommend getting one.
I got mine from food saver, but got a discount for going through deals of america....go to the site and type in foodsaver, it brings up several on sale...saved me over $100.
We bought ours from Sam's Club and love it! Great investment!
You have to have a different size sealer for each type of jar.
I had a Rival years ago for about half a day. It was junk. We love our Food Saver!
Most antibiotics need to be kept in a dark container. I would recommend at least putting the sealed food saver bags in mylar bags to protect the meds from light.

They are indeed in the mylar after portioning them out and sealing them. :)

There are only two sizes of jar lids, right? Wide mouth and regular? Will the sealer work on jars/lids of all makes? (Ball, Mason, Tattler lids, etc)
Yes. There are only 2 sizes; regular mouth & wide mouth.
I know they work on all of the metal brands. I would assume they work on Tattler as well, but I've not tried it on my Tattlers as I don't have a jar sealer. (I want one of each. They're on the "garage sale/thrift store/clearance" list.) I do like my Tattlers for canning, though.

I've been trying the site for the past few days, but it seems all the coupons are currently expired... It's only a matter of time before one of them works, though! :)
Deals of America just added new coupon codes today for the foodsavers!
