Have you learned the huff yet?  You have him take in a deep breath and push it out forcefully with a huff sound. Its hard to explain. It's kind  of like when you breath hot air onto a mirror, have him try making steam on a mirror, maybe this will help!! remember to have him force the air out.

Hello,

The huff breathes are a good idea. I wouldn't have thought of the mirror, lol Are you running a cool air humidifier? (They told me not to use a warm air one, because of bacteria.) It helps loosen that mucus. I'm guessing that your listening to his lungs for that pneumonia, right? Extra treatments are the best suggestion I have if your not already doing them. Plenty of fluids and let him run around, they say running is great for CFers almost like doing extra treatments. As soon as I let my son rough house for a bit he coughs up a bunch of junk. I know I always want to keep him still and rested, but like so many things the general things we would do for a normal kid don't always work the best.

There's a breathing thing called a flutter but I don't know if they make them for little guys. It's like blowing a whistle but the vibrations help loosen the mucus. You could ask.

As far as the flu shot. We've always gotten the regular one and a had the pneumonia one also. This year we had the H1N1 shot a week ago and had no troubles with it at all. But he has no history of problems with the shots. I think if you choose not to get them this year just try to keep him from the stores and ill people where he would be exposed if you can.

God bless,

Shelly
