Hi moms.

My daughter has Down syndrome and not CF but I was hoping you can give me information.  She is sick once a month with pneumonia or bronchitis.  Just this month, she had pneumonia and RSV.  She has asthma and obstructive sleep apnea as well.  She's having a bronchoscopy done in May to see what may be causing all these illnesses.  (She's had immune system checks and they have all been normal.)   A CT scan a few months ago showed atelectasis in both lungs.  She had some aspiration studies and they were normal.  We're hoping the bronchoscopy will give us some answers.  I've only gotten information online but I was wondering if any of your kids have had this done and if youu had any insight for me.

I see you posted this a few months back. How did she handle the bronchoscopy? I have had several, the only issues I had was waking up I didn't feel too hot and threw up, but other then that it was a fairly easy procedure because I was asleep.

Please update us!

Sorry haven't been to the group in a while.  She had the bronch done in May.  Her washes and samples came back clear.  She did have areas of compressed or collasped spots in her trach and in several spots in her lungs.  Unfortunately, we didn't learn anything new.  Except these collasped spots will make her sick often.  She had a heart ablation the same day so I was more focused on the recovery of that. I don't know of any complications from the bronch.  The last few hospitalizations she has had for pneumonia they had done chest therapy with her.  they have used this machine (don't know the name) and rubbed it on her chest/back.  She rarely coughs so it's hopeful this will help.  I'm hoping to get that machine for the home.  We have talked about a vest but haven't used it on her yet.
