We all hear it...breast is best. Many of us will be bombarded with lactation consultants and breastfeeding videos during and after our pregnancies.
However..the brutal truth is...breastfeeding may be the natural choice, but it doesn't always come naturally. And it is very heartbreaking when a nursing bond is unsuccessful.
There are lots of reasons why some mothers are unsuccessful with nursing: Work schedules, bad support system, breast problems, medications, lazy nursers, birth defects, babies that just do not want a breast. And alot of women will suffer a lot of "mommy" guilt and be judged from all sides--both breastfeeders and formula feeders.
Pumping has its benefits, mainly being that other family members get to help feed baby, and you can see how much they are getting. Plus you get the very important knowledge that you are still giving your child liquid gold...just not from your breast.
So if breast wasn't completely best in your case, whether by CHOICE or CIRCUMSTANCE, join this support group and share your success, hurdles and resources!
