He told me i need to stop pumping/breast feeding. i Am torn cause i don't want to but then again lately i been so stressed and my ds poop Is more green and he seems to not be gaining weight well once more. i figure it's cause i may not be makin enough fat. also reason for quitting due to bc Is cause the hormones that could get into milk. i want bc though cause i can't afford to get pregnant so soon health wise.
any advice
My advice is your doc is an idiot, none of what he is telling you makes any sence. You don't just "not make enough fat". And the problem with hormonal b/c is that it MAY dry up your milk, it may not. Its not about it getting into your milk.. so if you get implanion you may dry up. There are other options such as mirena or paraguard that are long term and wont affect milk production.
Quoting ceckyl:Oh and green poop could mean a few things, my guess is food allergy.
Your doc isn't correct.
You don't have to stop breastfeeding or pumping if you're on BC...they just warn that if you go on BC you may have to stop because the hormones dry up your supply...but if you keep pumping and stay religious about it you can keep your supply
There is no reason you need to stop....you'll starve before your milk is affected...
Green poo usually means baby is getting more of the foremilk and less of the more fatty hindmilk (formilk is like skim milk and hindmilk is like cream)
If you're breastfeeding try just feeding from one side per session...and if you're pumping I've heard that you can let the milk sit in the fridge and separate...and then skim off the "fat" and add it to what you'll feed the baby next time...so the baby gets double hindmilk....OR you can just make sure you leave the pump going for a few minutes after the last drops...sometimes the milk starts flowin again
Just a question....how do you know your milk is low? Is your son having at least 6 wet diapers a day and is he gaining weight?
if you are going based on what you pump...don't...babies get more milk than the pump does....
Just for a reference..my son is 9wks and only gets 2oz of BM and he's gaining no problem...your lil man only needs 2-3oz of BM in a bottle per feeding (don't let them tell you he needs more he doesn't)
I would go talk to a lactation consultant about all this....green poo. birth control and nursing, everything. They know what they are talking about.
Many doctors do not know ANYTHING about nursing, what meds are compatible or not.
I would look into the mirena or something like that! Or the NuvaRing (I don't know its hormones work). But as far as the oversupply, I would pump that out....I had to pump exclusively for my Leo because of my oversupply. I'm not getting birht control either (I'm infertile......I need to save up another $20G at least for another one :/)
