So I started pumping this morning, (delivered yesterday at 430) first time I pumped I got maybe half an ounce of colostrum maybe a little more...the few times since then im not getting anything at all. Maybe some drops buut nothing worth keeping. I know my milk isn't in yet, but thought id be making something....how's this usually work anyone know? I never had to pump before but w/the little one in the nicu this is my only option for the moment and im afraid since im not getting anything except cramping.

I would keep pumping! And go talk to the lactation consultants at the hospital tomorrow for some support.

My milk didn't come in until 5 days after my 3rd was born. With my other two I couldve swore it was just a couple days.

Mine was 3 days and the nurses in the nicu said 'youre three days PP, right? Right on time!'.

We supplemented with formula until my milk came in. I don't understand how strictly BF babies go for days without eating, when the typical let down is on day 3!

Keep pumping...the baby lives on VERY little in the first few days
I EBF the first two weeks (sooo painful) and he didn't nurse much at all the first day...the babies are too tired and sleep most of the time
Don't worry..your milk will come in and then leak ALL over the place...its crap..first you have nothin and then its everywhere LOL

My milk always took awhile probably about five days. I hand expressed and got more in those first fe days than when I pumped.

It couldn't  hurt to take some mothers milk tea and looking at this it mentions a few things that help.

The colostrum is packed with nutrients.  So though they are not eating much before the milk comes in, they are getting more than enough nutrition to survive.  Plus there's the body fat they pack on just before birth that they "lose" aka utilize while waiting for the milk to come in.

I agree with this.  What type of delivery did you have?  C-sections are notorious for delayed milk, but that's ok :).  It should come in within the first few days, so its on its way.  And if you are like me, it came in sudden and fast!

So proud of all I have....My big boy Caden and my little Leo.
