Kanon Wakeshima started learning cello and classical music as a girl and has stayed with it ever since. With a strong desire to express and convey emotion and to start expanding her realm of expression, Kanon started writing lyrics and compositions. Her style is characterized by the combination of the ephemeral and eternity, reality and unreality, and includes motifs from classic fairy tales, Greek mythology and Shakespeare. Kanon has also turned to art as a means of expression, illustrating one-piece line art drawings, digitally processed fashion drawings and character designs from fairy tales all under the name "Hirari".
Produced by Mana, Wakeshima debuted under the DefStar Records label on May 28, 2008 with the single "Still Doll" and "Sand Castle" which is the ending theme for the anime adaptation of the manga series Vampire Night. She was nominated for a Best Newcomer award for 2008 in the fourth annual Shojo Beat Music Awards, nominees of which are determined by surveying "record companies, music journalists, music experts, and music fans.
Her second album includes tracks for which she has done both the composition and the lyrics. At live performances, Kanon is known for her unique singing style while playing the Cello.
In 2011 Kanon self produced a concept solo performance in Shibuya, presenting a performance which expanded her musical repertoire, presenting self composed and written material which incorporated jazz, rock and classical music. Later that same year she presented a concept live performance called "Strange Treat!" which went on for three months. The theme of the live performance was food, as she "consumes" feelings from the environment and others, just as she eats no matter how she is feeling. As a "treat" she treats herself, players and workers in the restaurant to her music as a meal. With three lives, she classified them as "meals" in the morning, afternoon and night, all of which have the Kanon Wakeshima style of jazz, classic and rock arrangements.
Kanon Wakeshima has enjoyed international success, traveling to France, London, Hong Kong and Los Angeles. Her Euro Tour 2011 encompassed 10 cities and 7 countries. This is her first Sakura-Con.
Moi dix Mois
Moi dix Mois is a sound project featuring the lyrics, composition, and programming of the notable musician and fashion designer Mana (G), the leader of Malice Mizer. Moi dix Mois was started on Mana's birthday, March 19th, of 2002. The name Moi dix Mois was created by Mana and has special significance. "Moi dix Mois" is French. The "Moi" being "self" and representing Mana, "dix" for 10 which signifies "1" as beginning and "0" being forever, or infinity, and "Mois" is "month" thus "dix Mois" means "10 months". This signifies birth and beginning, as it takes 10 months in total for a fetus to grow from egg to birth. Mana's Moi dix Mois music is a spicy fusion of classic and progressive, delicacy and craze, construction and destruction; with a symphonic sound that is thrilling and dramatic, meant to inspire tears of drastic beauty. Mana's project expresses its own fantasy world. Moi dix Mois has released 5 studio albums, numerous singles and has completed several concert tours, including European and North American appearances. This will be Moi dix Mois's first Sakura-Con.
