Every kid loves getting new school supplies, we know we did.

Even if the ones from last year are still ok, there's nothing like getting some new ones.

In the thread below share your tips for buying new school supplies without breaking the bank.

  • I stock up when they are on sale. I love buying a 24 box of crayons for 25 cents.

  • They give the list of stuff needed on their last day of school, so I buy throughout the summer, and I usally buy extra if I can.

  • I compare prices and shop sales.  WalMart always has great prices on school supplies.  I always go to Kohls at the end of July to get their shorts on sale for 60% off.  For other stuff we go to Ross, Marshalls and Academy.  With 5 kids it is important to save money where I can.

  • Get what you can from the dollar store and buy the rest on sale at Target.

  • A friend and I go to our local mass-department store (Sam's Club, Shopko) and stock up, then when we get home we divide the supplies up and split the cost.  It saves money and is fun, too.

  • Here in NC, Walmart had a great sale on tax free weekend! Book Bags for 15.00 (Hannah Montana). Markers for 88 cent, scissors for 1.00, markers for 1.00 crayons for 24 cents.

Staples and Office Depot are having the same sales now. Cheap, cheap prices. Binders were on sale for a discounted price. Paper was 50 cent a pack. Everything was very affordable. I bought all the supplies my kids needed for the year for 40.00 and that included two book bags! :0)

  • I bought school supplies that i *thought* woul be on thier lists all year long.....everytime staples, office max, or office depot had something that was to good to resist i bought it and put it in a rubbermaid tote in the top of my closet. when this school yearrolled around i just waited for their lists to come out and double checked thier list with what i had already bought and put back. i only ended up having to buy a couple small things!!

  • I usually shop sales - I also check out dollar stores because they sometimes have name brand for lots less than regular price.  I do a little shopping here and there throughout the other months too just to keep stocked up.  I have even been known to add their favorite pens/pencils to xmas stockings for stuffers.
