When the idea for this project first came to me I was at work talking to a chick I work with about my pregnancy and how life is on being a single parent. It wasn't until a few days later when this chick I barely knew started telling someone about me and MY STORY. I was shocked...number one that she was telling someone my story....and two shocked at how highly she spoke of my "situation." You could tell our chat really effected her. I always wanted to help others...I just never knew how I could.
I'm a huge fan of the Post Secret Books- They are edgy and artistic and quite frankly sheer genius. Frank Warren left postcards around his home town of Massachusetts asking for people to anonymously write down a secret on the blank postcard and send it in. He had made up about 100. Soon, the postcards full of random secrets from all over the globe started to pour in. He created a book with all these secrets compiled together.
I have always wanted to be a writer....ALWAYS. I started to write my story of being a single parent and I wanted to share it with others so they would feel less alone. For me finding out I was pregnant and single was very hard to take in. I knew the road would be hard, but I took the challenge. It's hard even to this day. The days all melt in together. Fridays feel like Tuesdays and half the time I don't even know the date, but I keep going. I wanted to share with others my story, and give others the chance to be heard. Everyone has a voice...a story. Everyone wants to be heard.
I'm trying so hard to spread the message about this project. It's not about pro-choice or pro-life. There is no limitations on what you can write about. You just have to be yourself-and I'm looking for stories from all over the United States so others who are or will be going through similar experiences can get some support- Just so they don't feel as alone. Because I know how I felt when I was pregnant.
I need help getting the stories in. So help me by simply spreading the idea around your town- Maybe you know a friend, co-worker, or relative that would be interested in submitting their story. Maybe you could put up a link to my website on your myspace or cafemom. Type up an email and forward it out, a bulletin on myspace etc.... Any way you could help would be great. And by helping spread the message you are taking part in helping others.
sounds like a great idea..i have thought of that before too but not much of a writter...i was a single mother for quite a long time too and had so many friends going through the same and when we were all starting to date again - we had so many stories to share...some funny, sad and heart warming and we did think about writting a book with our stories but never did....
My question is can i write more than one?? on different issues to overcome...or how i dealt with them....because i have 3 LOL and they are all very different subjects....let me know...thanks
