How do you all feel about Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul?? As I understand it he is for very small government and is actually for doing away with the IRS and I believe he supports the fair tax. I personally really like him, he is a pretty strict constitutionalist and seems to be the smartest man for the job of President! I have been reading alot about him and like him more and more everyday, he makes alot of good sense. Although im a registered democrat I think I may have to put my full support in Paul....I would hate to think that meant me having to register as a republican :)that might be tough, dont know if I could personally. Paul has a HUGE internet following and I highly recommend you all check out his website and read up on him.

I like his stance on taxes and had considered him a viable candidate until the first debate, than I realized he is a kook.  He is actually a libertarian from Texas, who is calling himself a Republican so he can run.  He doesn't have a snowballs chance of winning.

Just wanted to clarify Ron Paul's background a bit here...

Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record:

He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.

He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

He did run for President in 1988 as a Libertarian Candidate, but has served in congress as a Republican for 10 terms.  To read his bio, check out this link: http://www.ronpaul2008.com/about/

I personally find his record very appealing and in line with our Founders principles.

Thanks for that info Jan! I think all to many people watched that debate and just because he has an anti war stance formed an opinion on him without even knowing anything about him.....I find THAT kooky, not Dr. Paul.
Fox did him a great disservice that night and Im not surprised that many republicans dont like him or think he is "kooky" and dont know a thing about what type of person he really is and what he really stands for......they found thier prey and they went on the attack...I found it totally disgusting to be honest, but its to be expected!
I really really really like Dr. Paul......Im learning more and more about him every day. I am a democrat but Im just not feeling any of the candidates, im confused to be honest but I like what Paul stands for and I think he is a good man and a smart man and it makes me mad that anyone would call him "kooky"!

Well, you know, it isn't the first time I have made you mad.  I am in this group to learn and am not really in the mood to get it going on with you again.  Let's not put these other innocent ladies through that.  I will leave any other remarks I have about this subject alone (for now).

Liz and all,

Here's some more info that members of this group might appreciate knowing...

While Ron Paul is not a co-sponsor of the Fair Tax Bill and believes that it is unlikely to come to the floor for a vote, he has been quoted as saying that should the bill actually be brought to a vote, he would probably vote FOR it.

That said, he also addresses his concerns regarding the government's typical tax and spend mindset.

Candlegal, I am as well ...

The more we know about policy, politics, legislation, organizations and candidates,  the more prepared we are to speak intelligently and effectively for those issues and candidates we support, correct?

That's why I wanted to add what I thought was valuable information regarding Congressman Paul.  We most certainly do not have to agree on whom we support for President, but I'm sure we can all agree that we gain from having accurate information when we make that important decision.

I agree Jan, I agree......candlegal I know you dont like me from my stint in the republican group but you seem to constantly take my tone and motives the wrong way and I was in no way trying to "start" anything with you, I am just sharing how I feel about congressman Paul, that is ALL.

Alrightie ladies....just touching bases to make sure you continue to be nice.  I think it is AWESOME that in this one area those with VERY opposing outlooks can come together!!  We need more of that in America...maybe not in all areas as that would be a cookie cutter country.  (BORING) I look at how we were on 9/11...I soooo hope we do NOT have to have that happen again to make us realize that we do have something in common!!

Being able to be Americans and agree on something that crosses political lines is refreshing!!  GO FAIR TAX!!!  HELLO "hard earned money making it to the bank"!!!

Personally...not sold out on any "one" --- not one will be "everything" we think he is going to be because he doesn't run the country alone...he has a Senate and a House of Representatives to deal with as well and truly who knows beyond that as well.
