My son will be 3 in a few weeks. He don't want to go potty on the big potty or his own potty. We've had some good tries. He's gotten out of the bath tub to go and other times he poops in the tub while taking a bath. The other day he seen the "num nums", I asked what he needed to do to get one, and he know. He's in young preschool, and I was hoping by seeing other kids his age go he'd get the idea and want to go... No luck yet. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks in advance to those that reply!

This is the method that I recommend: http://www.cafemom.com/group/562/forums/read/4235060/3_Day_Potty_Training_Post.  I used it with my son when he was 23 months old and it worked great for us.  You can do it over a weekend if you need to and take either a Friday or Monday off to give you the 3 days.

The biggest key is consistancy.  If you are totally focused on PT for those 3 days and basically nothing else, your son will see that you mean business and he will most likely get on board with it all.

Let me know if you have questions.

We had this issue with our son.  He knew what he needed to do however he had no interest in doing it on any potty.  I talked to his ped about it at his 3 years app.  She suggested we stop talking about it, no pressure, and overall just forget about for awhile.  My son is stubborn and on certain things he has to be in control.  So we went with this suggestion.  We waited(it was hard) however we had tried a lot of things to this point.  Not even 2 months later, he came to us and told us he was ready to be a big boy and use the potty.  This was July 5 when he told us this.  Now he is fully trained and has been for several months.  He had some accidents the first week but he was ready and pretty much did all his self.  He actually takes himself to the potty and sats himself on it and does his business.  For him waiting till he was fully ready and that included making up his mind was what worked best.  I dont know if this will work for your child or not.  We have had no regression, no tears, no frustrations, nothing.  It has actually been a peaceful process.  Good luck! Just remember all kids are different and all potty train when they are ready.

I have been happily married since 6/7/2003, datenight having, put my marriage first, loving my husband Ben, college student, equal partnership, feeling like our family is complete, and pro-choice on any issueI am a healthy eating, preschool sending, bedtime setting, non-ERF, only child having, semi-SAHM,  fully vaxing, CIO, spanking, mom to my son Connor born 5/14/2006.

thanks, this is encouraging....my 3 year old is having problems too, I am going to try for a few more days, but if we don't get even one success...might back down for a bit.   It is nice to be reminded that not everyone has kids that are 2 and trained (although they do sound like the lucky ones...)

He's doing better. As long as he has on underwear on, he will go, (only at home) but if he has a diaper he don't care.. We started to venture out on a cold day, and we'll say he had his first cold air experience.

Honestly, there's no need for him to want/need to use the toilet if he has a diaper on.  He can pee in it with no negative consequences so why have to stop what he's doing to go potty if he can pee in a diaper and keep rolling in what he's doing?
