Yay! Dry night! One more question.

Update on my 2 1/2 year-old's night training.  Day 1 we woke her at 11pm and at 3am, she was wet at 11, but not at 3, then wet again in the morning.  Day 2 was great -- we woke her at 10 and she was dry, at 3 and she was dry, and then she called for us at 6am and we rushed in thinking she had just wet, but no, she was dry.  The wakings have gone okay, except last night after the 3am wake-up, she was awake for a half hour. And that was without me turning on any lights or talking to her at all, really.  So how long do I need to continue waking her up in the night? Which waking should I drop first, and when, assuming she continues to be dry?  Thanks for the advice.

When I trained my son and night, eventually he was already stirring when I went in to wake him up before I went to bed so the waking part got easier for us.  Then eventually he started fighting me about not getting up to go and at that point I just let it alone.  Plus during that time he woke up in the middle of the night to tell me he needed to go so I took that as a sign that he was sleeping light enough to feel the "need to go" feeling and so I stopped waking him at night.  Fortunately for us, he never wet the bed in the night- thankfully.

So, you'll basically have to play it by ear.

I have started waking my 5-year-old during the night.  So far we've successfully gone 2 whole nights and stayed dry.  I go in and take him to the potty about 1-ish and then again about 4-ish.  He pees each time but in the morning he doesn't remember that we went.  I'm wondering how long it will take with him.  I usually get up at least once during the night to go so getting him up does't really bother me.

We had a second dry night like the first so of course I'm tempted to do without setting the alarm for 3 am... but I think we'll try to stay the course a few more days.  I still think there's any way she's going to wake up on her own to pee -- such a heavy sleeper!  -- but she may be learning to hold it better while sleeping...

How long have you been waking him up?  Are you doing it every single night?

Yes, I am waking him every night.  We just finished night #3.  Even if he doesn't start waking on his own, at least I don't have to buy any more pull-ups!

It's going to take a little while for his body to adjust to not sleeping so heavy.  I think it was 3 or 4 weeks before I saw a change in how my son reacted to being woken up.
